- 3/4ths to 1lb of ground beef (i actually use ground pork)
- one carton ricotta cheese (the smaller one, not the monstrous one.)
- mozarella cheese (use one regular sized bag)
- lasagna noodles (use the barilla ones, you do not need the cook them beforehand.) you can get one box of them, and save the rest for later.
- one jar of ragu (regular sized jar.) i use original.

you need a casserole sized pan. (9" x 13" i believe)

brown the meat in a frying pan. once it's browned, drain off any excess fat/oil. stir in the pasta sauce.

once those two are mixed and warm, spread one layer across the bottom of the pan. spread about half of the ricotta cheese on top of that. sprinkle mozzarella on top. place lasagna noodles on top (you should only need three per layer. do not let them overlap.)

repeat the two layers. any extra meat/sauce mixture spread on top. sprinkle cheese on top. i don't put the noodles on the bottom layer because it tends to burn (since it's dry.)

cover with aluminum foil, stick in oven at 375, bake for an hour. keep watching it so that it doesn't burn (check in after 30 mins, then each 10). should serve 8.

my memory is getting fuzzy on the layering, because it's been a while since i've made this and i can't find the site where i got the recipe. i have it bookmarked on my backup computer at home.

an even easier way to do this is to get premade ravioli with whatever filling you want, cook them, spread in the pan with sauce and cheese, and bake.

I agree 100% don't disregard it just because it's a frozen food, this one is actually really good.

I'll leave quantities to you, as it will depend on your taste and the size of your lasagna dish.

SAUCE

I generally use Turkey italian sausage. I get some onions, mushrooms, minced garlic and pasilla peppers (include seeds) and sautee that up, then add the ground and seasoned turkey and fry that up until it begins to carmelize. Then spices!!! 1-2tsps of fennel, lot's of basil and oregano. a small amount of crushed red pepper and paprika. Continue to sautee until the spices cook, this will help realease their flavor.

Add 4-6 chopped fresh tomatoes plus a can of stewed tomatoes until you have your sauce at right consistency. You can add salt and other seasonings at this point to flavor your sauce to your taste.

OTHER FILLINGS:

Fresh spinach finely chopped. Mix this with your ricotta cheese baby!!! This ricotta spinach will be one layer of your lasagna.

Fresh tomatoes sliced. Add a layer of freshly sliced tomates on top of your ricotta cheese layer.

Fresh mozarella/cheddar shredded. Add this on top of your tomatoes.

So your layers are a little sauce on the bottom of the pan. Noodles. Lots of sauce. Ricotta cheese mix. Tomatoes. Cheese. REPEAT 3 times at least.

Another good addition is a layer of thinly sliced ham and perhaps some additional vegetables.

cook until golden brown perfection!! Man of man!!

I usually just mix spinich, ricotta, mozerella, and an egg, boil some noodles, brown a pound of ground beef, mix beef with sauce, layer and bake at 300 till its done. You dont really need a recipe per se just add what you like.

The sad thing is that my GF actually CAN NOT cook and doesn't seem inclined to learn either. Sucks :( :)

lasagna is awesome in that you don't have to follow exact recipes.

my two favorites are italian sausage and sweet peppers lasagna, and spinach and feta lasagna. both have the same basic "cores": noodles, ricotta, mozerella, sauce, etc.

you're 25-26 and have never made your own lasagna before? that was one of my favorite cheap eats in college, $10 in groceries makes something like 15 servings

Meh, cost me around $8 in materials at Food Lion. To get the same serving size, it would have cost me about $12-13 at the store for a Stouffers/comparable brand lasagna

Buy a premium brand of noodles. Follow the recipe on the back of the package, they are always good.
