Interesting,
Chase offers a BVG card.
I might have to switch my
Chase Perfect Card to one that offers BVG.
Thanks Rossman. I spent hours last night reading about various cards....I never even got out of the American Express series! I appreciate the link to the Chase cards.
One thing I have found is that I might be asking for too much if I want both BVG and rewards. Seems like you get the best deal if you choose one feature that is most important to you.
I have decided that BVG (with internet price matching) to be the most important to me. I can continue to use my Northwest Airlines card for mileage reward.
Any more suggestions?
RossMAN, which card did you decide upon? I am looking at the Costco American Express. You have to sign up for a Costco membership but there in not an annual fee for the card from AmEx.
BVG/LPG (same thing) isn't that important to me.
So my four main credit cards are:
1)
Bank of America/Alaska Airlines cc.
Although there is a $45 annual fee I got this because BOFA initially gave me a limit of $2,500 now it's $12,000
We usually prefer flying Alaska Airlines and you can redeem miles for hotel stays and Amtrak train trips
BOFA has some of the best fraud protection and is usually pro-active in preventing fraudulent transactions
2)
American Express/CostCo 2% Cash Rebate cc
No annual fee
Up to 2% rebate on all purchases
Convenient because the cc also doubles as my CostCo membership card
CostCo's DO NOT accept traditional VISA/MC cc's because of the cc processing fees however they do accept Amex cc's. So if you buy a big ticket item like a plasma TV, you can make payments.
Extended warranty on purchases, very nice if you buy a lot of computers and electronics.
Oodles of perks
3)
CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select cc
No annual fee
Flat 1% rebate on all purchases, unfortunately you don't get your $100 check until you have charged $10,000 which takes me about 10 months.
Very nice web site, payments are applied fast (same day if done before 1PM EST), increase credit limit, etc.
CitiBank's customer service has usually been friendly and helpful, this is important to me.
Not all VISA cc's offer
Visa Card Benefits but CitiBank does qualify. The perk which I find the most appealing is
Warranty Manager. If I buy computers/electronics I always pay using my CitiBank cc.
Decent balance transfer offers, was recently offered 3.9% fixed for life of the loan with no fees.
4)
ChasePerfectCard.com
No annual fee (assuming you make at least 9 purchases a year)
3% cash back on all gas purchases
1% cash back on all other purchases
What sets this apart from CitiBank's cc is the 1% and 3% are applied IMMEDIATELY when your statement cuts. So if you bought a $680 TV your 1% rebate of $6.80 is immediately applied towards your next statement as a credit. I prefer this method over CitiBank's wait until you reach $10,000 and we'll mail you a $100 check.
Nice web site interface
They offered me $2,500 credit limit but my Balance Transfer limit is DOUBLE that. So I was able to transfer balances of up to $5,000 which is nice. 0% for 9 months then who knows what it goes up to.
Qualifies for
MasterCard Benefits which are very similiar to VISA Benefits. 1 year free extended warranty is nice.
So there you go, those are my 4 main cc's and why I chose them.
I have worked for a Fortune 500 bank for the past 9 years and have done extensive research on the best cc's for
my financial needs.
