Oh please. Do I start threads like this with all annoying songs on the radio ?

Change the station.

Nobody's stopping you from doing it...
So you're saying it's okay to bitch, whine, and moan about everything I dislike, but have a choice not to expose myself to ? Yeah...

I have been a Metallica Fan since Kill them all came out and I have to say I like their new album. When I first listened to the album I was disappointed with overall sound quality but after reading several articles I learned that Bob Rock was going for the rehearsal type of sound and not the polished sound and lyrics like the Black album had.

They also produced this album without their new bass player which also hurt the reproduction of the Album. For all you people who think the album sucks, Pop in the DVD ( That is if you actually bought the cd :) ) and it sounds 100% better then the CD.

You guys that say this album sux are so narrow minded it is pathetic...do you realize their were other assholes in your place that said the same thing about the Ride for Lightning Album, Master of Puppets and Justice for all ,Who were all proved wrong in the end...

I think Metallica is going back to their roots...I love the hard edge of their new music.

The Load,Reload, S&M Album, Some of Garage Inc, Made me want to projectile vomit because those are albums that truly for $hit and that is one of the reasons why Newsted quit.

The whole album sucks and no amount of hype can change that.

hype seemed to help the new matrix.

Hype also killed Star Wars Episode I.
No, Ep I killed Ep I. That movie blew just as much as St Anger does.

I think Jar Jar killed Episode I.
Jar Jar....the kid couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.....dialogue was shite.....etc....etc.....

It WAS really bad, but don't give a pass to Ep 2, which IMO was even more dreadful. I had to fast-forward through at least a third of it to stay awake.

I only listen to NPR or certain specific informative talkshows. I don't listen to pop radio, haven't in years.

First time I saw the video and heard the song, I was far from being a Saint, but was very angry. For the first time in a long time I felt like I wanted to sue Metallica for my time spent watching and listening to that crap. I don't hate them at all, it's just the song sucks.

Yup.

Took me a couple spins to really get into it. Frantic and Dirty Window rock.

Pre-Black Metallica was awesome. I was a huge fan starting back in '84. Now they suck and are fading. St. Anger sounds nothing like their "roots," it just sounds like sh!t. It sounds like they tried to copy every "Nu-metal" band out there and failed miserably. I'm still upset that I actually paid for it, and even more upset that I followed the advice of some fanboi's here and tried listening to it 10 times over. It doesn't matter how many times you hear it, it still hurts the ears. And if I wanted to hear the roots of Metallica, I'd pop in Rust in Peace :p

I like all of their albums and my favorite switches from month to month (last month was garage inc, this month is kill 'em all). I don't particularly like their new album but Load and Re-load took a while to grow on me as well and I think if you give the load albums a chance they really are decent (not great but decent). My main beef with the new album is "WHERE ARE KIRK'S SOLOS?!?!?" Listen to Kill em all and you can just hear his speed and talent. And now with St.Anger it's like Kirk doesn't even need to be there, what a waste of soloing talent on that album. Anyway I hope St.Anger grows on me, but I do find it hard to listen to the whole album through b/c of the sound quality and the fact that most of the songs are almost too similar. But I will press on :)

Funny how Metallica doesn't want to put their new album on Apple's iTunes because they refuse to sell the songs individually.

They would have made some money as opposed to no money now. They suck anyway...

Same sentiments I expressed in a thread when the disk was first released. The DVD alone was worth the admission price. In the DVD you can actually hear the bass line and it gives the music an added dimension that the audio disk doesn't have.

What I think is cool about the new album is that the rock stations around me have about 5 songs off the disk in rotation. Not the typical play-it-to-death single by single release that most rock bands do.

Wasn't Dave Mustaine the one ripping that sh!t up? I'm pretty sure he was in Metallica up to and including Ride the Lightning (which interestingly enough is the last "good" album according to most metal heads). Mustaine is an incredible metal guitarist. I just wish he would quit singing. Megadeth would be so much better if they'd find a real lead singer.

I'm Metallica's #1 fan. I have been listening to their music since '88, and have played their music on guitar since I was 14. I know every song note for note. I wait patiently for each album to be released, and I have accepted all of their musical changes. Until now. No matter what Metallica's style, I could always get into it, as the songs were great. You can tell they put alot of work into their music. But this album doesn't have that feel. And they admit it.

In this month's Guitar World magazine (or one of the guitar magazine) they admit to writing the album on the fly. James said many times he'd want to go back and resing a line, but decided that the initial "feel" of the moment was more important than doing it over again to get it right. Bob Rock admitted that he would give James 15 minutes to write the lyrics to an entire song. And it shows!

I think bands need to be mindful of "overproducing" their music. You can polish it so much that it loses the edge or feel of the song. But Metallica never had a problem with that. I love Metallica's finely-tuned sound, where every note is on place, and every 16th note speed picking is right on beat. And I never felt that the perfection ruined the feel of the songs. I still get pumped up by a good Metallica song. So I'm not sure why they felt the need to underproduce this one. I think they felt a need to compete with the crappy sounding bands of today who are so popular.

It's a sad day because, at 40-years-old, I don't think they have it in them for the next CD. Somehow I doubt at 45, they'll meet my expectations of a good Metallica CD.

I'm pretty sure Mustaine got kicked out right away, before they even recorded and studio albums, Cliff was on bass then but I'm farily certain Kirk was playing lead. Check out ride the lightning, MOP, AJFA, and some of garage inc. for more of Kirk's blazing solos. The point is still "Wha Happened?" to the guitar solos, I get bored during a 8 minute song that is a mixture of Tool, Metallca, Korn, and Godsmack without a solo.

Nope, that was Kirk on Kill Em All. The only time you'll hear Mustaine with Metallica is on "Hit the Lights" from the Metal Massacre compilation album. You can find the reissue CD pretty easily.
