I live not too far from Davis, and I have a few friends that go there. It's a really nice campus, and area, but it's mostly Asians there. I would've thought about going there but they don't have a business major there. It's a lot of agriculture there, and medicine.

Asians in all the UC campuses. :D

When did you go there? Remember, our campus is pretty spread out too, so all the walking gets to you. We're pretty liberal, not as bad as berkeley though.

As with any college campus, we got the hot girls in summer.

You mean you are not as good as UC Berkeley.

You do have one thing Berkeley doesn't, sheep.

If you read the comment properly, he was not saying that Berkeley was inferior.
He said it was more Liberal.
I sure hope you did not get into that school.

As a matter of fact, I did get into that school. And I sure hope you didn't get into any UC school.

Wow, you are a moron. Did you see that this whole thread was started by myself trying to get information about the school because I GOT IN???

You must be some 13 y.o. smartass
You're the one that said UCD is not as bad as Berkeley, with respect to being liberal.
And I gave you a link that indicates that inspite of being more liberal, Berkeley is a more highly ranked University. All of those liberal professors, and students, and Berkeley is still the best public university in the world.
Thank god they didn't let you in.
You can talk when you GRADUATE from UC.

OP, I went to UCD and had a great time there! Let me know if you're into hockey :D

Do you play out in Roseville?

No, I'm not the one who made the comment about Berkeley.
I never have had any interest in Berkeley.
I didn't apply to Berkeley.
Davis has a better biology department than Berkeley.
That's all I care about.

Hated the cow smell when it rained. Had to go through it b/c the closest parking lot to the Engineering dept was right next to the cows :(.
Parking is getting harder and harder to find each year.

Campus is pretty decent. it has a small river and is very nice in the evenings to walk/sit there. It is huge, and sometimes walks can be ~20min+ when you have to walk from one end to the other end of the campus. Would definately recommend a bike if you dont have a car.

On campus food includes Carls Jr, Taco Bell, pizza hut express and then there is a cafeteria run by ASUCD (they have pizza, tacos, burritoes, salad bar and other food there). Then there are tons of small shops to eat at in the downtown area.

SF city is 1.5-2hrs away. Tahoe is ~2-2.5hrs away. If you gamble, Reno is ~2-2.5hrs away and Cache Creek Casino (Indian casino) is ~30min away. Sacramento is ~15min away. Town does feels like empty during the holidays. and it gets really hot during the summer.

Did you enjoy it overall?

Not into hockey so much, but interested in most other sports.
Heard that they are trying to make a huge shift into Div I.
Don't know how they will fare.

Glad you enjoyed it, got a really negative picture from all the students (even the tour guy seemed really beat up and tired)

I am the one who said it wasn't as bad as Berkeley in the liberal sense. Since when does being accepted into Berkeley mean you are a more intelligent person then someone else considering its not always based purely on scholastic rankings? Some people also care about the social atmosphere the school and surrounding areas provide and that has some basis on their decision.

Yes, Berk is a more highly ranked campus and I guess to the uninformed, any old degree from there might be a little more prestigious, but the program in itself also matters, as well as personal ability and experience. At least that how it generally is in the real world.

That, and why did you even bother bringing in scholastic rankings anyway, since that was never the subject of comparison.

I went to and graduated from Davis (01') with a degree in CS and a minor in stats.

I loved the school and the town, despite the occasional ag. smell. They do have a beer brewing program and a couple friends of mine actually switched from CS to that program and loved it. The town is awesome. There are 3-4 main bars and Davis has a pretty good local music scene. It is also one of the biggest bike towns/schools. I think there are two bikes for each resident or something crazy like that. The bike circles are a bit frightening the first time you have to navigate one with 100 other people but you get used to it. Pay attention to the stop signs and traffic rules. They have a bike cop who can issue tickets just like a regular cop. His thighs are about the size of my chest and he has no problem catching up with you on your brand new roadbike ;).

Let me be the first to recommend against living in Tercero. I had a friend who lived there and hated it. It really is out of the way and there isn't much of a social scene in that area of campus. If you are not the social type you may like it more. If you are the social type I highly recommend the off campus dorms. Feels more like apt. living but that can also bite you in the ass your first year.

UCD is a great school for biology. I absolutely respect you chem/bio folks. I didn't have the patience or the interest in it and the handful of those classes I had to take were more than enough for my lifetime. :)

The whole Berkeley/Davis discussion is moot. The best "ranked" school is worthless if you don't fit in with the culture, and that was what the OP was asking. I am sure he studied the scholastic merits of each prior to applying.

Cheers and good luck in your decision.
