Does anyone else visit Pawnshops?

I visited three or four today on my day off just to see what was there.

I found Wedding Crashers on DVD for $3, saw a single mom pawning her kids nintento wii for money so she could get an abortion, (more than) a few power tools on sale, and some seriously overpriced jewelry.

Anyone else with noteable finds?

Down there at the pawn shop it's only way to shop
down there at the pawn shop if it's not in stone
down there at the pawn shop at no end, no way to shop

It's a good place for tools as already mentioned. You can also find sewing equipment and musical instruments.

From what I understand there is a pawn-book with fixed pricing for common items. This is at least true from my days of guitar buying.

I only go when I'm looking for something specific(usually musical instruments).

Ghetto stereo equipment is fairly cheap, can sometimes find winners. Tools, Tools, Tools, and more Tools. Also my wife found a Prismacolor set of brand new colored pencils that retail for $175 for $25.

I go whenever I want to recover something that's been stolen from me.

I used to, but most of the real pawn shops in Central Florida went bust in the mid 90s. The only ones left are basically loan sharks.

I visited a few in NC this summer. Everything was priced and unless they are VERY flexible with their pricing, there was nothing there worth the money IMHO. I'm sure there are some sleeper bargains from time to time but I think you'd have to be in the right place at the right time. I remember seeing a 17" LCD monitor marked $60. Dozens of VHS tapes for $1, CDs for $2.

What amazed me about the VHS tapes is there would be multiple copies of some Grade D movie that I never heard of, and not a recognizable name in the cast. I wonder where they all came from.

Probably the out of work producer of the film, or maybe the duplicator company ran out of cash and pawned their stock.

The only time I've ever been to a pawn shop was to get my watch back. My mom took it and pawned it to buy booze. She was staying at my house because she got evicted from hers.

Really, the only pawn store in town is more guns than anything else. Also the guy who runs it is cool and likes to talk guns. So yes.

We cruise a few on occasion. While there is just the usual overpriced stuff, like a used Wii system for $225 despite the fact new they're down to $200, we did find a mint pair of Mission M71 bookshelf speakers last week for $35. Absolutely flawless in condition (looked like brand new) and in sound....even had their original box, packing, and manual. Also found a very nice Bulova Spaceview watch for $65 a few months ago in excellent shape and working condition. Both items are now happy at our home.

lol, at first I'm like who's Chun-Li, but then I figured it out: Chumlee. Both of them are pretty annoying though and at least the grandson knows what he's doing.

It is a pretty cool show though. An expert comes in and says X is worth $2k, and the main guy goes, "I'll give you $500 for it." I don't blame him for making that kind of an offer though. The collectible market is pretty unstable and it might be a while before that stuff gets sold.

Pawn stores are usually way overpriced. Its only good if you can strike a bargain.

I kind of feel bad for Chumlee. He's like the not-so-bright guy who hangs around the friend with money hoping that he can get a piece of the pie if he can just be nice enough.

Wow. Did you kick her out of the house afterward?

I stop by about once a week. The only good deals there are on Videos and Games since there are no used game places here. All of the electronics you have to haggle to get a decent price.
