Do u pay any taxes for straight talk or just a flat $45

Depends on your state really. But it is a sales tax so you will only pay $1-2, not $10-15 like postpaid service. If you enroll in auto-refill or buy 3 month refills you get a discount which makes up for the tax.

Does MMS on the iPhone work if you use unlockit.co.nz, or do you need to still edit the APNs? I have an unlock pending for my wife's out of contract iPhone, which should allow me to then edit APNs without jailbreaking, but I'm just curious if MMS works without that.

unlockit.co.cz only changes the data APN. The MMS apn still needs to be edited. You don't have to jailbreak to edit it. You can use the guide under here for non-jailbroken MMS.

Also, even if your iPhone is unlocked, the network settings screen won't show up if you have an ATT SIM in I believe. You have to put in a T-mobile SIM, edit the APN and then put your ATT/Straight Talk sim back in. See the above link for a tutorial.

Keep in mind, you need the phone unlocked to do this if using an iPhone 3GS.

Just got an HTC Inspire off FS/FT here.
I'm gonna use my AT&T SIM card for now & use WiFi (Have a non-smartphone plan).
Just ordered the new ST SIM Card & a $45 Unlimited card, should be here Monday.

Tried working with AT&T for a decent plan with Data, but the best I could get out of them was going to cost ~$80 mo. (for 120 MB Data!) And I've been out-of contract for over 2 years! (They used to give you a free new phone and/or service upgrades with a new 2 year contract!)
Not gonna happen! I'm paying $50 mo. now for 450 min. Talk, text is extra, no Data. (I use less than 250 min. mo. talk)

Can't see myself using much data at all outside the home, but I thought it would be nice to have if cheap enough.

Should work well for me, 1-1.5 MB daily or 1.5-3 MB monthly should give me plenty of leeway.

Straight talk is amazing. I'm not sure why anyone would use the big guys (data speeds i guess?).

Too bad Canada won't get on the ball with cell pricing.
Mobilicity is analogous. Unlimited everything for a decent price, but throttled data speeds.

Fido has a decent $57 plan with unlimited everything... except just 1 GB data. I instead took an a la carte retentions plan on Fido for just under $60, but it gives me 6 GB data and LTE support (although the latter may be moot as my next phone doesn't support LTE).

Cool glad ya dig prepaid and the savings in your pocket. ;)

I tried suggesting this to one of my friends to go prepaid when him and his Wife's contract runs out but he's convinced that a contract plan helps build credit.

I did some research online and found that not to be the case but he argued with me about it.

Prepaid makes sense to me for most people to consider.

Getting my ST sim in the mail today. Been interesting living off of Groove IP and wifi areas but I need some true mobile data already!

stupid question maybe, but does anyone know if I can stop refilling my straight talk for a few months and then reactivate it with the same SIM? I'm going to be out of the country for a few months and figure I might as well save ~$150 if possible...but I don't want to lose my number.

You can reactive, but you might lose the number. From what I can tell the day your deactive your number goes back to the pool of unassigned numbers. You can always port your number to google voice. $20 and you get to keep it forever.

Thanks for the info. I actually did port my old AT&T number to google voice so I'm not too concerned about the number...guess after thinking about it some more the only minor drawback is I might have to spend the $5 or whatever on a new straight-talk SIM.
