I hope I can, seriously...

All depends on the market (doesnt it always?), and how my product sells.

Hehe...I'm just messing with you. If you can earn yourself enough loot for a Ferrari, more power to ya. ;)

As much as I hate Honda... I have to say that the S2000 is a better value as a roadster.

Heck, with the stuff that's been done to Miatas... that's an even better value. But if you're considering a used car anywho... I'm not surprised at seeing more and more Boxsters selling in the low 20ks.

Personally, I couldn't (it seems some other people are like this too) bring myself to buy a breakdown-happy exotic or overpriced poseurmobile when something with true performance can be purchased/worked. The ZO6 is an insane performance value... that's the main point of it. It costs a buttload more to move up to the Viper and there are very few factory cars that can keep up with the ZO6. If you put some work into the car... all bets are off... you might end up with a monster like a Callaway TT.

The SS made up for the speed in the straights I'd guess. I agree the Boxster S is underpowered, but I guess Porsche doesn't want to cut into the 911's power range. I think there needs to be a 300+ HP version of the Boxster.

replace "hate" with "love" and remove "value as a" entirely and you've got something there ;)

Either way it was close enough to call them even! As all of you know Camaro's are not known for their handling abilities with their live axle and lack of IRS, which is why I am suprised it was on par with the Boxster S, which is spposedly a sports car, rather than a muscle car as the Camaro is labeled.

Comments? Suggestions? Flames? I tolerate them all ;).
One...Why does everyone wanna compare muscle cars/FWD Neons/350z's to roadsters?

Replace "much" with "little", "hate" with "cuddle", "Honda" with "b0mberman", "I" with "Mother Russia", "S2000" with "spaghetti", and "roadster" with "loveslave" and you get...Well, I'm not sure exactly what you get, but it's a lot of work. Probably not something you'd want to bring home to the family over the holidays, either.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

It's a fargin Porsche!! No it doesn't suck!! It isn't the best Porsche and there are many other cheaper cars that perform/handle better, but they ain't Porsche's. One certainly is paying for the name, but[redundant mode]It's a FARGIN Porsche!!!![/redundant mode]

I actually like the Boxster... its not that impressive right now because it can't... otherwise it would start biting into 911 sales. The Boxster theoritically has a better chassis than the 911... which is imprisoned in that same shape it's always had with the engine sitting rear while the Boxster has it midship... at the same time that's also what gives teh 911 it's own unique character that no other car has. Go take a look at the RUF 3600S... that should be what the Boxster is. :) But like everyone said... if you own one and hate it... you can send it my way. :D

look - you guys need some insite as to how the world really works -

the boxter is out of the price range of most "regular" people, and certainly
99.999% of teenagers

its target buyer is a overweight 40-50 year old male that makes more than $200,000 a year (can you say mid-life crisis?)

most of those people just drive it to work on the freeway, and park it next to their buddies BMW's and Lexus's

it's all about marketing

I agree, the boxter is a dog. I'm sure Porsche is making a killing off of them, but at the same time I do think they sort of tarnished their image with it.

But .. ?? I guess it brought "owning a porsche" into the hands of a lot more people!

There would be no porsche now if the boxster didn't come out... that was a make or break car for them...

To me, the Boxster (and even its faster version, type S) suffers from the same thing that other German Luxury cars suffer from:

I'm at the bottom of the totem pole, you may be able to afford me and have bragging rights to the not so knowledeable (usually girls, sorry girls that DO know about cars...) that you own a car made by [fill in luxury name] brand.

other examples:

318 BMW (do they still make that POS??)
Mercedes C-Class

Yes, I know the Boxster is still better than the two mentioned above, but, IMHO, it doesn't make me think of all the great achievements of Porsche when I see one chugging by. Its all about the 911 baby. :)

As stated before, the Boxster was a big turnaround product for Porsche (that and the '93 993 911). In fact, the 996 911 that you people praise so much owes A LOT to the Boxster. The original '99 996 911 Carrera (ain't that a mouthful;)) owes MUCH to the Boxster. From the dashboard forward, they were practically identical (mechanically and stylistically). They share dashboards, doors, basic structure, and the original 3.4 liter flat 6 was an outgrowth of the then 2.5 liter unit in the Boxster.

The Boxster was NEVER meant to be a speed demon. I don't know where you guys get that from. The current Porsche 911 with 320HP 3.6 liter flat-6 rips 0-60 times of 4.8 seconds. The Boxster S does the deed in 5.2 seconds with its 258HP 3.2 liter flat-6. Any more horsepower, and you'd have a Boxster S slaying a 911 for $30,000 less.

Most high-end makers who make sports cars have low-end models to complement their top-end offerings (low / high). Ferrari has the 360 Modena / Enzo, Honda/Acura has the S2000 / NSX, BMW has the Z4 / Z8, Mercedes has the SLK / SL, and Porsche has the Boxster / 911. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that EITHER of these cars suck, they just have different segments that they go after

With low-end models, there is always compromise. That being said, I don't know many people that would turn down a Boxster/Boxster S if it was given to them.
