Does anyone else not listen to the radio in their vehicles?

I'll listen to sports talk, handyman shows, and yes, even Limbaugh (a couple times a year), but music is from my CDs.

I mean dead silence. No music, no talk, no passengers. Just me and my own thoughts. I guess I entertain myself better than anyone else can.

The bigger question is, are you keeping both hands on the steering wheel? :roll:

nope. if I didn't listen to the radio, I'd never find any new good music.

back when my morning commute was 30-45 minutes, I'd take my iPod with me because the only thing on the radio was stupid morning talk shows (Howard Stern et al). now that I'm commuting to work later in the day, though, and my commute is only 10-15 minutes, I listen to either the local rock station or a local college radio station.

Used to have no radio when I took my interior out, but 1hr drives to columbus made me decide to put a CD player in. Only use it when I remember to bring a CD.

I did that for a year because I drove an old mazda 323 with no working sound system

it's not bad after a few weeks. it forces you to think about things you normally wouldn't, and in retrospect, the best soul-searching i ever did was in that old thing.

When I first get in my car, I check out the all-news station for weather and traffic reports. But 95% of the time I spend in my car I listen to the car's cd player or to music on my laptop.

The all-news stations spend too much time on New York Post type news. The music station DJs are obnoxious and very little of the music played is anything I want to hear.

I gotta pioneer 10 stacker in mine and i still prefer to listen to the engine...such a wonderful sound, nothing like the lumpiness of a stage 3 cam

but no, really, a lot of the time I drive in complete silence, but sometimes I'll listen to some music. I'd say it's split about 60/40

OK, serious reply. I used to listen to the commercial stations, but eventually figured out thaat is was pretty thin gruel. Started listening to NPR and quickly got hooked. I'm guessing you like to think in your driving silence.

Try your local NPR station to put some fuel on the fire. SUSAN STAMBERG ROCKS!

Takes me about ten minutes to commute, but I always have the radio on WNCX. That may get me Howard, a good classic rock song, or a commercial, but it's something. At lunch I listen to the same station in the car, rather than a CD. Makes me feel like I'm connected to the outside world.

On our recent 8 hour trip, we listened to MP3s for 75% of the time, and local news for the balance.

Back when I had my '66 GTO, I had an under dash cassette deck, but never used it while driving. I preferred to just enjoy the sound of the engine. You could feel every cylinder fire through the Hurst shifter. Just didn't care about no stinkin' music at that point!

all the time. i get bored of listening to songs pretty quick. npr is pretty good most of the time unless it gets artsy and sh*t with pieces on "artists". but other times its got interesting lecture/interviews with famous people/experts on lots of stuff/politicians/diplomats etc... blah. cartalk is fun. cartalk.com for some streaming version if u want a preview. thislife.org has all the shows archived for this american life, which is generally amusing too. wnat i rarely touch is the cd player. too much of a pain, maybe 3 songs a cd u like..and even then you are kinda bored of em. and a mix cd only is novel for like 1-2 plays. so its 99% either npr or cnn news radio. most radio talk shows sicken me though, its like listening to one of the p&n'ers rant ...
