Does anyone else not like going on vacations?

We're supposed to be going away for the weekend to NH, to relax on the beach. I personally can't envision myself being to relaxed, after driving on the highway for several hours and fighting through traffic just so I can sit in some hot sand on an overcrowded beach. I'm such a drag about this stuff...whenever I think "vacation" I think "stressful waste of money". If I had my way I'd stay at home and catch up on some projects around the house, fvck around with some computer stuff and maybe have some friends over for dinner. I fvcking hate driving.

Maybe its the fact that when I was a kid, my parents didn't have a lot of money so we always took these half assed vacations. We'd go all the way to florida, and then not do sh|t. We'd sit around the hotel or go to some lame park but not disneyland. I always thought that was bullsh|t since I could sleep in my own bed at home and I wouldn't have to drive 24 hours to get there. I guess that whole attitude is still holding on because I just can't ever get excited about a vacation. If I absolutely have to waste money, I'd rather buy a video card or a new recliner...at least I can sell that sh|t if it turns out I don't like it.

as i only have a year left of school and am spending my last summer at home, i can relate a bit to this. i work full time during the summer and have one week off before going back to school. my parents want to go on vacation...most likely camping somewhere which is fine, but we've done that hundreds of times alreday. that week may be the last time in a long time that i see some of my childhood friends and my mom takes it as a personal insult that i may want to spend it with them, doing things around milwaukee ive never done like state fair and the dells.

save your money and go on a good vacation. One where you have to fly somewhere. Or go on a cruise. Take into account 2 days for travel time. So we want to set aside at least 4 days to make it worthwhile.

It sounds like you've just never been on a good vacation ;)

You must venture out of the hobbit hole sometimes and see the world and have adventures.

woah i'm glad i don't think your way, i LOVE vacations. i haven't done much traveling yet and I finally went out of the country to Aruba this summer and man, I really want to go to more places. granted, aruba was nothing what you mentioned. it was not a crowded beach, there was no traffic, and it was absolutely beautful (check out sig if you wanna see pics).

and i don't get wha tyou said about having crappy childhood vacations. i'm the exact opposite. i by no means had crappy childhood vacations, however i always went to ocean city, MD, or north carolina to some beach. never anything different. so once i got out of college and had money, i decided to go all out on a vacation to Aruba which was COMPLETELY different than I had been on before. and i'm so glad I did that.

what is the point of you having your money if you aren't going to spend it? i mean i wouild rather stay in for 3 months in a row, saving money on the weekends rather than going out, and go on a week vacation somewhere, than going out every weekend and never getting that week of vacation.

Agreed, we just came back from Hawaii and I don't even want to know how much we spent, I know the plane tickets were $650+ pp and each activity was around $100 pp.

The whole thing wasn't too bad but I just can't have too much fun when I start thinking about how much it cost.

Same here.
Also, I kinda feel like if I can drive there, it's not a vacation. A week in Europe? Sure, that would be a vacation. Driving nine hours to spend time with the in-laws? Not a vacation--but that's what I normally get. At least one of the in-laws has horses so I can go riding.
But the PSP should help make those trips more enjoyable too :D

I voted meh. I'm only 21 and still live at home. We never go on family vacations because someone is always working, usually my dad.

My friends and I don't go anywhere because we work also and can't really afford it. If I went on vacation I'd just get drunk and act stupid which I can do successfully without spending hundereds of dollars to fly somewhere and pay for a room.

Too much to worry about.

I have difficulty enjoying vacations, they always are more stressful (flights/going out to eat/schedules) than my normal day to day. Sleeping in an unfamiliar bed is difficult considering I have sleeping problems as is. My ideal vacation is sitting in my apartment and doing nothing for a couple days.

then don't worry about it. if you budget correctly you don't have to worry about anything.

when i went to aruba, my gf and i saved up about $2500 to blow while over there. while there, we didn't have to worry about crap, and knew that we budgeted well enough to not worry.

we all worry about money, but some of you guys seem to worry TOO much about it.

I love a good vacation, even if it is just going down the shore for a week. The thing is, you have to be ready for the vacation before it comes.

A good vacation is all about 2 things, planning and money. You have to plan the trip well so you know where you are going and what you are doing (of course you should plan plenty of leisure time in order to relax). Knowing what you are doing and how you're getting there takes the stress out of the vacation. You also have to plan to do things you actually WANT to do. If you enjoy being in your house that is great, but there has to be something in the world outside of home that you want to do. Plan accordingly, this is the part that actually makes the vacation fun and worth leaving home for.

Money is probably the most important part of the vacation. Of course you have to bring enough money for hotels and activities, but there is more to a vacation. You don't have to be rich, but you have to make sure you have enough money to go out and enjoy yourself. If you're away from home you should eat well, sleep in a nice place, and travel as comfortably as possible to really get the most out of the trip.

The key is being able to keep your focus on doing the things out of the home that you actually want to do. Good planning and saving enough money make this possible.

i do too, its just that things get repetative so its nice to be able to plan and look forward to a vacation... just something different for a little while.
I think the reason my husband and i love traveling is because we truly appericate life and like finding/exploring new things. We do not have a lot of physical assets, but we travel a lot and have wonderful memories of times spent together.
It is a very important part of our lives at this point.

I am exactly the opposite - I love to travel. I do agree with you about most of the "tourist trap" spots, though. If I'm staying in this country, I'd rather go someplace to go hiking, fishing, or camping, or to see something like the Grand Canyon.

I would also like to travel to Europe though, to see some of the old castles and cathedrals - I'm interested in history too; what can I say? I think Japan and other parts of the "far east" would be interesting, too.
