Death tolls could be close to 100000+...how can you not feel for them??? There are kids that were crushed to death, some were burried alive and died over several days, they lost everything they had- family and possessions.

Amazing.

I'm not dancing in the street celebrating the tragedy; I just don't care. I didn't care about Katrina either. Mama Nature can be cruel...such is life.

Until it happens to you. They have meds for sociopathy these days. (Look it up---you have a lot of symptoms.)

um just because they don't care doesn't mean they're a sociopath. or social deviants, like that one emokid in this thread said.

some people are just more apathetic than others, and some are just pretentious that they pretend to care. people who say they don't care are just apathetic or honest. they're not necessarily bad people. i see it like donating to a big philanthropic organization. you're not obligated to do it, but when you do it you feel good about yourself.

It's sad because I do feel bad, but no I don't go about everyday thinking about it and crying like an emo kid. Yeah, but if I thought about it, I would be sad. Do I really really care about it? Nope. I can say that this tragedy has not affected me as great as say the 9/21 earthquake in Taiwan but that's because my family is not in China but in Taiwan. But just because I don't care as much about this quake as one that strikes closer to home, does this mean I need to go onto a freaking forum to rant about how I don't care?

What's worse is there are people out there who also feel the need to come out and defend their views saying WHY they don't care and why they have a right to not care (and if you honestly wanted to put race into perspective, I haven't counted many Asians venting on this thread saying how they don't give a crap about the disaster). It's disgusting and it's pisses me off that people need to come here all defensive to talk about how they don't care. If you really don't care but you have a heart, you wouldnt come here to say how there's nothing you can do to help the victims and we should just move on. That's for counselors to say, not for someone who claims to be compassionate yet aims to be a realistic individual by not caring. I don't see how you have a heart or can be compassionate when you need to come here to promote your "not caring != hating" agenda. Seriously. If you don't care just STFU and move on with your heartless life. Those who stop and think have the right to feel emotions like most normal human beings.

If you were in the area of the quake and you heard people crying out for help and you did nothing then yes, I'd say that you were a very heartless person. But it is hard to "care" when any disaster does not directly affect you or people you know. Perhaps people are naturally selfish or something but that seems to be a common reaction. Most people would say something to the effect of "that sucks and it's sad", but it's difficult to place the word "care".

I'm in China right now so it's all over the news and such. I'm nowhere near that province though. I've already donated some money but I got to honestly say that I'd be more sad if my dog at home died. I don't think that makes me a bad person though...I just have no direct link to the tragedy; just like in Burma, Katrina, or all the tornadoes currently hitting the midwest.

while it's true that china is the mass exporter of fake Diesel jeans, I still feel sorry for the children.

Maybe it's because of all the media attention to crappy Chinese products or maybe it's the fact that they're communists who don't give their citizens freedom of speech - I don't know.

I just don't care
Anyone else?

You feel this way because you're stupid, literally; your brain can't feel the capacity to care for these people, as such, I'm concluding that you and your feeble mind are still in the concrete operational stage. IE, you lack major empathy skills and/or the ability to see things from other people's perspectives. It's relatively normal, which is probably why we see others not 'caring' as well (Though it's still the minority), and it's safe to say these people aren't the brightest bunch of light bulbs either, and most likely have some severe social issues that prevent them from going into the former/post-formal operational stages, as if they did, would empathize with the people of this tragedy.

Don't worry though, there is hope! But judging from your posts, not for you, sorry! You'll probably try to refute me by saying something like "I empathize but blah blah blah" but I assure you, you do not.

You're right about us not caring about your future well being because ATOT doesn't care what happens to stupid people. In fact, it's usually praised or awarded (The prestigious Darwin Award) and I gotta say, I'm rooting for ya buddy!
