I'm looking for a job currently. I faxed my resume to a few companies last week, and yesterday I got a phone call from two of them. They left messages on my answering machine with call back numbers. But now I'm really nervous about calling them back for some reason, to the point where I'm thinking of not calling them back at all, although I really need a job!! Do I have some kind of phobia? I'm afraid of sounding like an jackass on the phone and not getting the job.

just take that joint out of your mouth and call 'em....

Can't expect to get a job without talking 🙂

but seriously... i've got the same 'phobia' ... but it's a talking on the phone thing.

Don't sweat it, you will do fine.

Just make the call short and set up an interview if possible.

Sometimes though, they want to do a phone interview. For this it is nice to have a sheet of paper with your info and YOUR questions handy.

Good Luck

Exactly what TomC25 said, before you call them, have your resume handy to you so you can re-iterate your work experience, and also write down some questions you have for them (You should have at least 2 or 3)

Try not to sound like you're reading off paper, though 🙂

Trust me, those little pieces of paper will make you a LOT less nervous when you're on the phone.

No, I think a lot of people are a little frightened of big companies at first. Trust me, there is no need to. Call and listen to what he/she has to say. Take some deep breaths. They wouldn't call back if they weren't interested. Besides, if you don't call, that will ensure you don't get the job. 😉

Phone......That's the easy part! Don't worry about it and just DO IT! 😀 Like the others said.......just have all your info handy and I have always found that when going into a phone type "possible" interview, it's always best to come across as confident.......when I did interviews or called people from an application I always seemed to choose the ones whom seemed confident in themselves and their skills! Better do it soon too........job market isn't getting any better right now.....

Thanks for the support guys🙂 I called back the first place, and I got the womans voice mail, I'm kind of dissappointed, I was all ready to talk to her. I'm afraid I'll sound like a jackass once I get her on the phone. When I get nervous I tend to stutter and stammer which doesn't look good when you're talking to a prospective employer!

Sacotool, I was also in a similar situation..except I was sooo worried about the call not going perfect...but once I called--I always found out it was no big deal and they know exactly what they want to talk about with you...so you won't have to carry the conversation or anything (which is what I kept worrying about)

Exactly what tinneric said... these people are ordinary people. When my company interviews people, we always get a handful of people that act so nervous you can almost see the sweat dripping off their foreheads.

If this is your first job search, you'll be nervous. You'll get used to it sooner or later.

wtf is wrong with you! Call them back, I LOVE it when somebody calls me and when I call them back its up to them to explain why...don't worry at all. Get over it!

Some people say that a person who is really good and not nervous in interviews is that way because ..... they are always looking for a new job. (either quits or gets fired a lot)

Someone who is new to the work force or has worked a long time with a company and now has to find a new job, is not going to have a perfect interview.
