I sometimes walk into the kitchen and just stand there staring into space for awhile because I forget what I went in for.

I checked out the APA link and couldn't find anything in that area with some casual searching... LMK if you find something. :)

I am exactly like the OP. I mean exactly. I'll often read a phone number once, and can pull it out of my memory for 3 months. This doesn't always happen though. Kev had a good example, I'll walk into the fridge...not 12ft away and think "WTF did I come in here for?" Meanwhile, if I read something once (I am a pretty slow reader) I usually remember everything and can draw on it easily.

I've smoked weed once and only drink moderately so that isn't it. Its just the way I am.

Yea, I notice similar things with myself. My job is quasi-management, I watch over a bunch of cashiers. I can remember all their names fine, even after just reading it once, but in every day situations I will forget someones name within minutes of being introduced.

Also, I often go into various exams (Junior accounting major) and pull off 90+ grades, but 5 minutes later i wouldn't be able to tell you what I was just tested on with any detail.

I've got the same problem to an extent. It used to be much worse, but I started making a habit of doing mental checklists and can now get out of the house without leaving my keys and coffee on the table every morning.
I can remember stupid things that are of no use, but I have to rely on books and the internet on a regular basis just to remember things that I used to know.
The whole brain pan is failing at an alarming rate.
I attribute it to years of drugs and alcohol. That sh1t definately took it's toll.
A lot of times my vocabulary fails me. I can't think of simple words for whatever reason. Most of the time I'm pretty sharp.

wow, I thought I was the only one forgetting what I was about to search. Yes, what you describe is totally familiar.

The memories of my family outings are still a source of strength to me. I remember we'd all pile into the car - I forget what kind it was - and drive and drive. I'm not sure where we'd go, but I think there were some trees there. The smell of something was strong in the air as we played whatever sport we played. I remember a bigger, older guy we called "Dad." We'd eat some stuff, or not, and then I think we went home. I guess some things never leave you.
