The people that use these are more annoying than people walking around with the retarded headsets. A lot of people who own these phones think they're some badass preparing to take down a columbian drug cartel with their awe inspring walkie talkie phone.

Nextel User 1: Yeah.. affirmative. One loaf of white bread, copy that.
Nextel User 2: I'm within 15 meters of your current position ready for transportation.
Nextel User 1: Move in on my command!
<Nextel User 1 and 2 put groceries into car and drive off, Mission Complete>

Alright, maybe they're not THAT bad... but still, annoying :l

Yeah, it is annoying. I was in a department store and a husband and wife had it... she was in kitchen stuff, and he was in another part of the store, and they were talking like that continuously.

Half the time these people are broadcasting stuff that would be better left to a private conversation also. It seems like more and more people are purchasing them too.

instant connection. what's not to love?

the speakerphone can, and should be, turned off for most conversations though.

How is the "instant connection" of two-way radios any different from the "instant connection" that a regular cell phone offers?

Cell phone requires dialing.

The only thing that bugs me is the fact that you cant change the Nextel beep.

It's the same no matter what phone you have.

I have one for work (I don't pay for it), and fantasize about the day when I don't have to carry that ugly, barebones, works-for-crap hunk of junk around with me.

kyparrish: "...talking about important work stuff to coworker...."
kyparrish's Nextel: *******BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP**************** (going out of service, abrupbtly cutting me off from something that was probably important to my stupid job)
kyparrish: (tries to not drive into the nearest telephone pole while I reboot my phone like it's an old-school emachine trying to run Windows ME on 32mb of Ram)

Shudders at the thought the day comes when PTT is available through the maritime channels for citizens. :Q

I used to work at a sub shop, and nothing would piss me off more than people trying to ORDER through the nextel phone. The person in the shop would hold it up and the people (usually 3 or 4) on the other side would order through it. Total pain in the butt; it held up the line for quite some time and just generally sucked.

What a coincident. I wanted to post about the same topic today.

Its annoying as fvck.
Its also stupid.
Whats the point ??
Talking normal on the cell is much faster and no one will be listening to your crap.
Its like people think they're cool for others to listen in to their conversation.

It works fine for what I need. I have a lot of friends and family who have a Nextel. If most people used a little common sense we wouldn't have this problem you speak of. As soon as I enter a building I throw my phone on vibrate and turn the speaker off. At that point it is no different than someone talking on a regular cell.

I don't see what the attraction to the walkie talkie is when you have the duplex properties of a phone right at hand.

Can't stand them... people that have them think they are SO fvcking important... when in reality they are just losers... and they talk on them in restaurants and other public places...

PSA : I don't give a crap about what YOU are saying, and I really don't give a fvck what your buddy is saying either...

It's not so much Nextel I hate as much as their users or better yet, Motorola. There is no need for the users to keep the beeps up so loud or to not open the phone and use it like a normal person would (I wouldn't use my speakerphone while on a bus.) That said, if Motorola knows that their users will have no manners, they should re-engineer the phones. Some features are nice, that my phone beeps every so often when I miss a call. That's not cool when you are renting a house with a group of people and some tool gets a call at 2am and sleeps through it and it's a which hunt to track down the offending phone.

That's all...
