While there are low cal condiments like salsa and mustard, many of them are the worst part of the meal for you. Take a look sometime, you'd be shocked. Laden in fat and oil, sodium, and corn syrup.
No I'm not kidding. Most sauces are quite healthy. Yes, some are oil (mayo) based. But the majority aren't bad. And sodium is only bad if you have high blood pressure.

I have to disagree. I've been watching what I eat the last few months and most are certainly NOT healthy. Look at the calories per gram in many of the sauces. It's not the be all and end all of guide to nutrition, but we're talking about people drowning their food in sauce. Many of these sauces when used liberally on food will have more calories than the food itself. You can choose to simply shrug it off, makes no difference to me, but the facts are there

My fiance thinks it's gross, but I've always loved food with extra sauce. I always ask for extra sauce, mayo, etc. on my sandwiches, and when I eat at Quizno's I pour 4-5 cups of honey mustard sauce on a 6-inch sub. I use tons of A-1 on steaks, and eat salads with plenty of dressing...

Does anyone else drown their food in various sauces?
You're gonna be really hot when you're 30 and fat.

My metabolism hasn't shown any signs of slowing down yet... my mom weighs 105 lbs after 4 children, so I think I'm okay. ;)

Give it time, I think women end puberty at 25 so after that your body won't be able to convert calories for growth....just girth

Sauce is usually the unhealthy part of the food. I don't know why someone would eat a salad then drown it in highfat dressing.

you still get the fibre and vitamins
True, but a lot of the time you're getting lots of corn syrup as well.
sauces may be unhealthy but the amount you take is so small, i can hardly see how it really matters in the big picture.
Because we're talking about people who drown their food in it. That's the topic of the thread. They're not using a small amount for flavoring that adds 100-200 calories. Sounds to me like they're slathering on 600 calories worth of sauce.

I could eat bowls and bowls of rice with sauce. Don't even need meat or vege. Hence the cantonese nick 'fun thoong'

:D

Seems like you are trying to shrug off the facts. Salsa is the #1 condiment. It is quite healthy. Mustard, relish, marinara sauce on pasta, etc. Hot sauce on naked wings is much better than fried chicken without sauce. I can just keep going and going. Like I said twice above, some sauces are full of fat and calories. But a nice spice rub has none!

Yes, I'm sure people drown their food in spice rub.

Besides, please point to me where I said that all condiments were bad. I even admitted that some were good for you e.g. salsa. Many however are not.

Some people use none, others use some, and still others use a lot. I choose to use a lot of spices.

It's not even a friggin sauce. I'm sticking to the OP's premise. Feel free to join me.

We're not talking about people using pepper and chili powder. We're talking about drowning food in sauces.

Put the spices in a little vinegar or beer and it is. ;)

Hell, I love spices. I'm a curry freak. I could put fresh black pepper on everything. But if we talk about pre-prepared sauces, a good number of them use corn syrup as one of their main ingredients.

I used to love drowning my salad in red dressings until I started watching my diet. I realized I was putting 500 calories worth of corn syrup on 200 calories worth of salad. I stick to vinaigrettes or light dressings now. Mustard instead of mayo, things like that.

i find myself doing this too. like turing my salad into a soup with all the dressing. tons of mayo, ketchup, mustard on burgers. puddles of a-1 on steak.

people look at me like im strange, but they look t me that way anyway.
