Does anyone answer mail sent to moderator@anandtech.com?

Hi! (Dunno if anyone will repond to this, but I'll post it anyway!)

I have had no response from moderator@anandtech.com since 4/8 on this...I have tried to login over and over again during the past week and keep getting the same error message.

Guess it doesn't matter much now, as I just registered again under a different username. (was Spock's Brain, now is SpocksBrain)

Oh, BTW, some have suggested to send a PM to the moderator instead of e-mail...that's all fine and good IF you can login! :(

Sincerely,

Dan Reich

Subject: RE: Error message

I have not logged into the Anandtech forums in quite some time, and today, when I tried to do so, I got this error message:

Forum Error
An error has occurred.

ERROR INFORMATION:
ODBC Error Code = 37000 (Syntax error or access violation)

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Must declare the variable '@P1950'.

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFQUERY), occupying document position (16:2) to (16:94).

I'm using the login and password information e-mailed to me as a reminder. (dreich@smcvt.edu, my old college account)

What's up? Is this just a temporary glitch? I'll try again later, in any case...

Sincerely,

Dan Reich

I have tested your account and some others. It looks like the new version of our software, FuseTalk 4 does not allow the apostrophe in your user name, even for previously existing accounts. YGM and PM with more info.

Well, right now, he's just notifying them that he should be banned, since he registered with a new name. :) Usually if you have a problem, you can ask someone else to email/PM a moderator/admin. Not that they'll necessarily answer, but you can try.

I personally think the moderator email address is set to dump most emails, and at a random interval allow one through, and also match emails to a filter to pass through based on usernames of bunghole buddies.

Not sure how long you've been away, but have you tried clearing out your browser cache, as well as deleting all cookies related to the site?

LOL
They seem to cut some slack to people who haven't been banned and just can't log in.

Emails never seem to get responded to. You're always better off making a new username, and sending them a PM. Yeah it's against the rules but it works, emailing them never does.

I've tried sending emails to them and to the subscriber addy. I think I got an answer once but I doubt it. It's really a joke and they should look into fixing this farce ASAP. Sorry, I am not trying to piss off any mods but time and time again we see folks that cannot get answers to their questions or situations. I realize the volume must be enormous but maybe it is time to ask for volunteers to help with the load so that some resemblance of order can be maintained. Just a constructive critisism with a suggested solution. ;)

The mods themselves are volunteers. Pretty much the only response to things like that is "the mods are volunteers, suck it".

Can you back this statement up with evidence? If it is true which I doubt then the volunteers at the Red Cross have no obligation to live by any rules or responsibility.

You need me to prove that the mods are volunteers?

Aside from the fact that they are whether you believe it or not, issues of the mods being able to or willing to maintain a level of responsiveness comes up once in awhile (often by me :)) and there's simply nothing that can be done about it. They do a good enough job that the owner and admins are happy with it and don't see a need to change anything.

The Red Cross on the other hand does establish guidelines and minimum performance levels, and when people volunteer it is dependent on them meeting those expectations. If they don't, then they are not allowed to continue their volunteer work.

Being a volunteer doesn't automatically mean "just do as much as you're willing to do", it means voluntarily doing a specific job at a certain performance level without compensation. The expectations of the mods here are apparently being met.

Atleast I'm not the only one who is ignored. I thought subscribers got some kind of quicker treatment since they do pay a fee but that is not the case...

Heh, I guess that's the "beauty" of it; we're all in the same boat here at AT. Sometimes you sink and sometimes you swim. ;)

I always send a PM if I have a question for the mods...and they usually reply fairly quickly, and are always helpful when they do reply....dont forget that the mods are members that come here to post just like you do....there are currently 111087 members of AnandTech, and I am sure that they keep the mods busy....just be patient

Must be the right "Karma" or something. To date I've written probably 3-4 times with either no answer or one heck of a delay. Not intending this as a b*tch session either though. Just remarking on personal experience.

We get special treatment in that the payment service treats us well(from what I've heard), and that they take care of subscription related issues fast, but other than that, you get the same treatment as everyone else. Paying for a subscriber gets support for the features you paid for, and not really the general stuff(past what AT already does).

I think I'd have to strongly disagree with that. The only thing worse than waiting for a return PM from a Mod is waiting for an email back from subscriber@anandtech.com support. I almost NEVER HAPPENS! I speak from real experience on that. Twice now I have tried emailing the subscriber support with questions about renewing my subscription, etc and I have NEVER gotten a return email. Period. I think those questions/emails to support here go into a big void out there in never-never land. :disgust:

What features? The 1000 PMs? The banner-less pages?

They were supposed to add more but I don't see it. Hell, I think they even took away features from us. Buddylists used to be for subscribers only but now I'm pretty sure everyone has access to them. Its something I never used but still. They could treat us like people and answer atleast 1 out of 5 questions we ask...
