Does anyone actually *like* paper billing?

Paper everything is better than electronic anything.

The billions of trees killed every year beg to differ. And so do the squirrels and birds that live in them.

Actually it would be interesting to see if computers have helped reduce paper or actually increased it. In the business world everything is printed, because of stupid beaurocratic policies and laws.

I pay everything online, though never with automatic payment. But I also never opt out of paper billing, so I have a fail-safe, physical back-up.

So you still put your money and trust to somebody else.

Well unless you convert your dollars to gold immediately you get them and stash them under your bed so do you.

You fail and fuck you socialist. Fuck you and death to you.

We killed you and will do so again if needed. Fuck you.

Lol. At least you'll be able to afford your meds soon you mad bastard. Pre existing conditions are included in your new socialist health care aren't they?

any bill that can be is auto charged to a credit card used for just bills, then i pay that balance and get the perk of points for bills. The one or 2 times I've had issues with an incorrect charge a 15min phone call (or an email in some cases) has worked it out. Also, if all else fails i can call the credit card and have them reverse the charge and credit my account; Auto draft for house/rent and car as it scores me 1% less in interest. Anything else is paid online via my bank with checks coming directly from the bank for me so i dont have to write them. I write two checks a month to the church and that's it.

Awww, the old, worn out and tired "save the trees" argument. Too bad that argument is just a display of ignorance about how trees are grown for the paper and building industries. Must be convenient to forget about tree farming, a technique that's created a completely sustainable resource for use in paper and lumber.

But don't let the facts get in your way of making an emotional argument instead of a factual one.

Paper is just better, its hard to explain I guess. Paper is universal. You don't have to curate the files over time.

He's partly right. Trees don't turn themselves into paper. It still take large machines, to harvest and process them, and they use huge amounts of energy and water. It's a waste for something that's easy to send as electrical impulses.

How does that work? Paper works exactly the same as electronic, except it's more of a PITA to deal with. It actually takes up 3 dimensional space. I could probably carry the world's electronic bills in my hand. You probably couldn't fit the paper bills in an Amazon warehouse.

paperless billing for everything i can. i think i get one paper bill a month.

no auto payments tho.

credit card statements should be paper. when you have like 2 years to make claims that you need to submit the paper statement where the charge is, the online version is only stored for 12 months. catch22

I don't think I've ever had an E-statement that couldn't be printed. I keep pdfs of my receipts in a folder until I get tired of seeing them, then they get deleted.

I opt for e-bills but I will never let anyone that gets money from me have direct access to my bank account. Automatic billing to my credit card is fine though because that's easy to dispute and I'm not trying to get actual money put back in my bank account. I still let my electric and water bills come in paper form because inevitably I'll need them for some school thing for my kids or some random credit check etc. Also, those two don't charge or give a discount for paper vs e-billing.

I just download it all to Quicken and I have as many years worth of records as I care to have. Backing up the whole database is like 25MB or so for 3 bank and 3 credit card accounts.

I demand paper copies.

It has to do with organization. With paper copies you can keep track of:
1) Have you paid it?
2) Have you looked at it?
3) Have you filed it away? (Most important)

With an eStatement, what fucking PISSES me off - is that the only fucking thing it is is an email reminder saying DUR HUR your statement is now available on our website! Now go have fun logging into 10 different websites with 10 different password standards, retreive the statement, pay the statement, and don't forget to save and file them all away! As I said, I wouldn't mind eStatements if they made it possible to pull directly from the email and save to my folders with my standards of naming.

There is no organization there.

This is curating.

Emails are not secure... hence they send you notification.

And your mailbox is? GTFO.

Do you know much mail I get from my neighbor(s)? Assloads. Depending on human action is 10 billion times worse than depending on machine.

I'm an OCD person about organization - and about finance/credit. I will never have a late payment, nor will I ever buy more than I can handle.

Our mailboxes are locked. We have one of those central ones (on our street) where every house has a small locked mailbox just like the mailbox rental places. And your neighbours getting your mail is a lot safer than getting your email account compromised. Your post office sucks if you get a lot of your neighbour's mail. I have gotten like one a year tops in over ten years.

I want a physical paper trail to correct mistakes that inevitably happen. I will always use paper billing and mail for stuff when it comes to money. I want that paper trail. Same reason I'll never do auto bill pay or allow any entity to withdraw money from my accounts. I keep the paper for 7 years.

this is what i do.

That's a pain in the ass though, for something that happens every month I rather automate it. I don't know what kind of companies you guys deal with if you have to constantly babysit them for mistakes.

managing your money is a pain in the ass?

sorry but i trust NOBODY taking money out of my account. that permission will never be given by me.

paper billing is too much book keeping. E stament is less clutter plus it is legal now to have e statement.

I believe I read that most of the trees used for paper are built from renewable stocks. We're not knocking down forests for Dunder-Mifflin anymore.

Between 401k's, checking, savings, and multiple credit cards - I'm probably over 20 accounts. Pulling statments every single month does get rather tiresome.

Plus you can toss in pulling paychecks, healthcare related (EOB), etc.. It really is a PITA

edit: Plus monthly bills. In my case: Comcast Internet, Gym membership, house utilities, house energy.
