Does anyone actually buy toner from Dell???

So I got a new Dell Laser printer 177 at work, and mMy toner is running low. I read they recommend that you buy the toner for Dell printers from Dell, but is that actually necessary, or it is just a ploy on the part of Dell? Anyone?

If you have a Dell printer, do you buy the toner from Dell - and which one the "Use and return" or the regular?

Buy the dell toner.

most companies have different kinds of toner, and if you use a different brand, it will MESS UP YOUR PRINTER.

Believe me, this is comming from someone whos father has worked on copiers and laser printers for almost 30 years.

Dell does not make their own printers... so if you can figure out who the OEM is, I'm sure you can find an appropriate cartridge elsewhere.

Work is paying...I really don't care if it comes from Dell or not, but I wanted to have an answer when the person responsible for ordering asks if it is "necessary."

How do I find that out?

I asked my friend named Google, who knows almost everything, but came up short this time... I'm sure Dell hides that information as well as they can since the toner is where they make a nice profit. Tech forums (e.g. here) are probably the best place to find this info... keep looking... or take your cartridge out - go to office depot and start comparing (if they include pictures on the boxes - since the cartriges themselves are probably sealed).

Cheers.

Lexmark is the manufacturer for Dell printers.

I don't know if they make ALL of Dell's printers... I do believe they used to make the Dell ink-based printers... I read an article a LONG time ago about Dell looking to get into OEM partnerships with everyone from Samsung, Kodak and Xerox.

Hey....
Consumers should immediately stop using the laser printer, unplug it, and contact their corresponding laser printer company to register their product to receive a free replacement laser printer.

my office could catch fire....

i dont think the toner will fit.. i think they made it a bit different so you have to buy dell.. google around..

I was just talking with my dad.

He said his old boss found new toner that was 1/2 the price, the boxes were identicle, ecept in very small print it said "Made for keyocera" and my dad was getting yelled at because all of the drums were breaking on the machines, but he found out it wasnt the real toner to the machines.

Do as you please, but i would get the dell toner.

My dad has replaced thousands of dollers of parts on the machines before because they were using the wrong toner in them - dont be one of those people.
