Does anybody remember the Canon printer that was recently featured on TechTV??

TechTV did a comparison between a Canon, an HP, and some other printer. The Canon was the best choice partly because it's black ink cartridge is only $6. My sister needs a new printer and I was thinking this printer might fit the bill but forgot the model and price. If it's expensive, can someone else recommend an "okay" printer? It's gonna be mainly used for word processing.

That $6.99 ink cartridge only lasts, well, it doesn't really. You have no idea how many people complain about having to buy a new BCI-21 cartridge every 2-3 weeks. A $30 ink cartridge is expensive but it saves time and convenience and I think holds the same amount of ink as buying 4 of those $7 cartridges which comes out to about the same amount of money. There's a reason why Canon got out of the inkjet/bubblejet printer market for a while.

I have an S520 Canon printer, and yeah it runs out of ink very fast. But there is a little kiosk in the mall out here that will refill the cartridge for 10.00 Canadian. So I guess it's not too bad. Also you can get a refill kit of your own for 30.00 bucks Canadian and do it yourself. I like the printing quality and also if came with Canon Zoom so I can have fun with my pictures!:)

Just do your sister a favor and get an HP. I have an older model, 712C, and with a $30 cart I can print about a ream of paper. I think they still sell a similar version, like 822C or something. HP is still the best for my money IMHO.

[edit]Considered a cheap laser, like $200?[/edit]

It's the 842 you're thinking of (I think) ;) They can be had for like under $50 at Office Max. You also might consider a 900 series HP - 920 or 940 - since the intro of HP's newer printers they're dropping in price

Any hp that uses a 51645 cartridge (the 42ml one) will last next to forever. The hp 930, 932, 952, and 960 are 4 that I know of.
The 960 was recently discontinued so you'll probably be able to get a deal on that soon.

Edit: DO NOT go with the 920 or 940, they use the dinky black ink cartridges that hold like 25ml of ink and cost nearly the same. They suck!

I've never seen a 42ml 45a sold at Staples or Office Max. The only 45a I know of is either 23 or 25ml, runs about $27.99.
