Does anybody know if sunscreen goes bad?

My roommate's mom says sunscreen goes bad after year? Is this true?

Yes. I had some go bad once and by the time it was all over it had killed 3 old ladies, a parakeet, 2 kats, drank all my beer and wrecked my car.

In the past I've tossed it out after it seemed the oil of the lotion went rancid or just "old" smelling, more recently I've heard the actual sunscreen ingredient(s) actually become ineffective after a season.. would also like to know if it's true or just a marketing ploy.

Oh man, that is some seriously messed up sunscreen, you gotta remember to use it or throw it away before it gets that bad
