So I am going to buy some equipment, and I am considering buying an Analog / Digital Synth maybe from Korg.
I have never worked on a synth before, but I have seen some people work on some before, maybe this video will give good picture about what I am considering buying .

- I use Audacity to mix my tracks would that be a problem ?
- Will using Linux as an OS be a problem for using a device such as the KORG electribe MX be a problem ?
- Is it a good idea for a begginer to buy a device such as the Electribe ? What would you recommend ?
- Are there any other equipment that I should be looking at ?

I am surprised there aren't much members knwoledgable about music editing around here, I thought I would get much more responses by now .

I make stuff using logic and pro tools and a midi keyboard, that is pretty much all you need unless you get really serious. I'm not too much into hardware, I think it's getting phased out.

I've only edited sound in Adobe Audition... i don't have a muscial ear so I have never composed anything. sorry can't help ya.

Are those what you have mentioned above software only ? What do you use to generate your own tunes / beats (other than the MIDI Keyboard) ?

Well, it's a stand-alone synth with audio/MIDI ins and outs. It looks like all you need to make sure is that you have an audio card and a MIDI interface that work well in Linux. So basically just give up.

Audtion FTW, nice proggy, I use it to mix multitracks of stuff my band does...i'll lay down bas and rythm gutar, my ohte dawg comes over and we throw in drums, then vocals, and finnaly lead guitair (a lot times bass and drums, and vocals get donme at the same time). Then extreas are added (like electric violin, again by me for some stuff...bongos by said drummer...got a female friend who plays yucaleleh)...distortion and ****** is fine tuned...and final proudction and editing....idk, its fun

TBH the only time I used a MIDI interface was for a couple of old gaming pads, I don't have any knwoledge about compatability issues neither in Linux nor in Windows for that matter.

Either. ALSA has some serious issues handling any high quality audio cards. The drivers are slapped together haphazardly, and their MIDI implementation overall feels the same way. Maybe they've made some great (read: revolutionary) changes to their model in 8 months (that was about the time I gave up on Linux). I sort of doubt it though. Linux is not a very friendly OS for much more than coding and web browsing at the moment. It doesn't help that when audio equipment companies even bother to release Linux drivers they do it within the less than optimal ALSA model, or even worse in the old OSS model. Ugh.

Yes, it kind of get me excited about doing it, what he was playing isn't exactly what I like but the track was good though.
