My Bio lab partner told me to tawss the sample and get a new one. I was all , 'till my other lab partner said toss.
Um, what?

She's a New Yorker. We fucked up part of the lab so she was suggesting that I "tawss" it and start over. I didn't know WTF she was talking about until it was pointed out to me that she meant "toss."

Do you need me to help you burp after you're done eating too?
You keep saying she meant "toss" but you're not explaining how you're expecting it pronounced.

She said it with a New York accent, I wasn't expecting that. Never heard a New Yorker speak?

You're such a Preek!......... I mean Prick j/k

Creek/Crick----- I've heard both pronunciations and it just depends on which state you are in, and in what county.

root: ruht

One of the infamous Pittsburghese words said in these parts. I do say it, though I have different definitions of it. A creek to me is a stream big enough that a bridge should be constructed over it if a road goes through it. A crick is a tiny trickle of a stream that you can pretty much step over, like I had in the woods behind my house growing up.

*shrugs*

Exactly. Same usage distinction here in SW Pa. too.

Don't you mean SE Pa.? :p

Same here. Funny thing is when my kids slip into rural Ohio - and they've never been there! I moved out twenty years ago and haven't been back.

My cousin does; she's from Arkansas. I say them interchangeably and like someone said, "crick" is "crick" and "creek" is "creek" - two different words for a stream.

That is nothing compared to how many people in songs say "chew" instead of you.

So annoying IMO.

It is a big deal. If we couldn't make fun of each other over regional dialects we would have to go back to making fun of each other's religion and race. People get all pissy about those things.

My wife watches Paula Dean on the Food Network. Every third word is "y'all" (and I can barely understand the other two). I want to reach through the TV and club her like a baby fur seal. So annoying. :|
