Well it is good to hurt at times. But it isn't always a good indication of progress though...but most of the time it indicates where you haven't trained some muscle or just had a break and they are not use to it.
I always hurt when I take a 2week break of no lifting. I just right back in to it and don't bother to go easy on myself.
It is good to train.
You should be getting results faster then that time frame. 6-8 weeks is plenty time to see noticable progress unless you are almost where you want to be.
I'd also say ditch the machines for lifting.
Squat, deadlift, chins/dips (okay use the machines for this if you can't do 10) and add some bench press and military press. Pretty much all you need. Add in some back and abb stuff and you are SET imo.
The other machines that help you can go without.
