I play roller hockey and I used to watch NHL all the time (went to a devils/avs game this year), but I dont have the time anymore. I didnt even know the playoffs started the other day.

Strike talks are retarded. No way that the players should be getting paid what they're already getting paid, nevermind getting paid MORE.

For those who play (or want to) ... go here. I'm getting sick of the strike talk, but that doesn't take away from the excitement of the game.

Before the baseball strike of the mid-90s... I think it was '94... I was a huge baseball fan... could name almost all the rosters... but after they resumed and even till now... I don't find myself caring too much. I didn't know too much about hockey then either. Now there's no comparison... there's nothing more exciting than hockey... especially playoff hockey. And I start my own playing season tonight - can't wait.

Hockey is great. Playoff hockey pwns j00h.

It has been so great, watching 1-3 hockey games a day for the past few days. I love it. I hope they can make some changes for next year so there is more game play and less clutching and grabbing. It makes me totally sick to have to watch all that crap during a game. I miss the good old days..... ESPN Classic, help me out here!

I love hockey. (Go Stars!)

For my money, hockey is hands down the best spectator sport out there. I've not paid any attention to the strike talks, just been a great fan recently.

Goin' to the Stars game tonight. :)

I love the game. However, I am very dismayed at its current state. There are too many unskilled players in the league. They are bringing the level of play down and the refs/rules are allowing it by not calling the clutching and grabbing. It has the potential of being the best game in the world, but Bettman insists on trying to force it into markets that don't care for it.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head with this one.

Yeah, the players are overpaid, but they are still the lowes paid on average out of the pro sports leagues (not counting the CFL of course). I read a magazine at lunch on the weekend which had a few interesting stats. This is all from memory though.

Highest paid player in 1994: Lindros $3.5 million
Highest paid player in 2004: Jagr $11.83 million

Team with the lowest payroll in 2004: Minnesota wild $20.7 million
Team with highest payroll in 1994: Pittsburgh $20.7 million
Team with highest payroll in 2004: NYR $80 million
Lowest payroll in 1994 was something like $7-8 million

I can agree with you on these points. I'd like to see hockey get back to being a game of finesse and skill and rely less on thugs and hits.

Yes I care about hockey. It's a great game; fast paced and brutal, but at the same time requires a delicate and graceful touch to handle the puck like an expert. More fun to watch than soccer (after 60 minutes, the score is 0-0!!!) or basketball. And the players aren't paid outrageous sums of money, and aren't as high profile in the media as players in the other 3 big league sports.

The question I want to ask is, Who the hell cares about baseball?

I snapped my twig trying to go top shelf on a one-timer but the biscuit found the five-hole instead.

<- Actively playing goalie

Hockey is awesome - far and away my favorite sport to watch, play, etc.

That said, the looming strike is a massive bummer. I lost a lot of interest in baseball when they went on strike and I've never really regained that love of it I had before.

I wub hockey. Strangely enough, though, I didn't like watching it on TV at all until I actually went to see a live game. Then I was hooked.

As for the strike, I think they're going to have to agree to a shorter season. Hockey just isn't popular enough in the US to justify salary increases when the NHL lost $300mil last year. I wouldn't mind a shorter season that much, as long as ESPN still carries one or two games a week during the regular seasons + the playoffs. Whereas two weeks ago I could never find anything to watch on TV, I'm now glued to it because ESPN/ESPN2 are showing three games a night. Not that I watch all of them. ;)
