okay this is whats up, I'm going to build my girlfriend a computer for her birthday. I only have about $500 i can put into it. She is not going to be a real power user so what i was thinking is i can set up the computer with RC5 and seti@home before i give it to her. Since every wasted clock cycle will be going for the team(which will be a lot for her) I was wondering if anybody can spare something like a case or power supply or anything cheap so i can get a more powerfull cpu. I was hoping to be able to get a P3 700 and possibly get it up to 1Ghz. If anybody has any extra old TNT graphics cards or anything that will work with a new computer it will help me get something better cracking for the team. This computer will be networked to a cable modem in her house because they just got one, so it will be running full time. Right now I could use a case, power supply, cheap graphics card, cheap sound card, and a cheap network card, to help defray my costs. Or if any of you are feeling really generous with spare parts any item is welcome. Thanks in advance for any offers.

I've got a NIC card I can send, as well as a very cheap VESA or ISA video card. I'm talking 1M mem at most.

i'll take the nic, and if you think the vid card will be able to take an overclocked FSB, then i'll take that too. But for now i'll see if anybody else has anything in the video card area.

The thing is damn near indestructable, I swear you could run over it with a car and it would still work fine, its like 6 pounds, the keys are huge and go "KLING" when you push down, and "KLANG" when you let them up, free for anyone who pays shipping 🙂
 
does anybody else possibly have anything that they could donate, I know i'll be able to crack more for the team if i can muster up a P3 700, what i'm looking for now in particular is a power supply. Anybody got one laying around collecting dust.
 
I have a 145W power supply I could ship you, but I don't know if that would be enough for your system.
 
hmm that might actually work, I have a 145 watt power supply also and i could modify the case and have 2 powersupply's. Yes i don think that would work. email me and we can work out getting it to me.

thats alright, my mom gets me free fans at work. right now something like a floppy drive or a cheap case would be awesome.
 
Ray, I can have you a 24 port 10/100 free, freight collect.

But :
- It works either 10 or 100, not both at same time
- only 15 (or so) ports are working

I can throw in a floppy drive with the power supply. The floppy does not have a face plate but works, LMK.

Maybe we can both be saved some trouble. I have a 235w I can swap out for the 145w. And I can use another 145 if you have 2.

I'll trade the 235 for the 145 if it will help.

And I'll buy another 145 in the FS/T forum.🙂

what i'm trying to do is get a P3 700 and getting it to 1000 using the least amount of money i can, i have about $500-$600 i can put into it. i'm looking for mainboard that have built in audio and graphics to defray costs and to ensure that the card won't give out on an overclocked FSB. I have found a mini tower for $10 that a friend has, i'm think i have the power supply squared away, and this system will be given yo my girlfriend as a present preloaded with either seti or RC5. it will be connected through cable and will be on 24/7. origionally i was going to build her the cheapest thing i could think of, but when i remembered that she is only going to web browse and use email with it and she will never turn it off then i realized "crackrack" so i decided to see what i could get for free or really dirt cheap so i could help out the team a little more than my meager output. hope this helps explain what i'm doing. if you have more questions then please ask.
 
kwatt, i will wait for the 145 to come in and then we'll talk okay, maybe i can get you also a 90 watt ps i saw somewhere laying around, i'll see what i can do.
