Okay, aside from the special they run once in a while, does the suck@$$ customer service make it worth it to even buy from those places? Evevery store I've been to in Portland treats me the same. I went to Best Buy, asked if I could buy an optical mouse, and this guy goes and "searches" for it in the "database" and doesn't return. All the while I see him helping another customer. I have to go bug him and ask him if he "found" any and he said no he didn't. Isn't it just common customer service practice to help the current customer BEFORE moving on and helping another customer? Yes, if they had a quick question I'd answer it for them then return to my first customer, but c'mon!! 30 minutes man!!! I've hated those stores since then. Comp USA isn't that bad in my experience, neither is Office Depot. I just hate those damn stores that sell computers, appliances, stereos, and other electonics in a convenient place (Fry's excluded). C'mon, post here if you think the customer service sucks too much @$$ to even consider buying from there.

Yes, all those places suck. Retail in general sucks. Why? Because most companies don't pay enough for a good salesperson or one that knows their stuff. Why would I want to work as a salesperson at BB in the comp. dept. making like $7 an hour (maybe) when I can use the same skills and be a tech easily doing double or triple that. Also, those places don't bother to train people on what they're selling. They just hope their salespeople can convince the "joe blow" customer to see things their way and make a sale...

Lousy sales people are mainly what keeps me out of the "brick and morter" stores and keeps me shopping online for just about everything. I've had some VERY bad experiences at places like BB, as have all of us... Don't get me start on them... :(

I worked at best buy for too long...

I agree...its even worse for employees...which in turn makes it worse for customers

I always bent over backwards for customers though and they were still asses...so it got me no where

its a two way street.

I like Best Buy, but then I've never been into salesmen to falling over themselves trying to help me, most of the time I don't have a question anyway. It's nice just to run in, grab something, and run out. And prices aren't too bad. But sometimes the place gets packed and standing in line is horrible.

The Good Guys around here is okay. The person who we bought our Wega from was real nice and did his best to match J&R's price, even including no tax (Good Guy's website said no tax), etc. Another guy in that store was a complete jackass saying all things bought at their online store was refurbished and crap. He was probably trying to get comission. :)

Haven't had anything bad happen at Circuit City either. At Best Buy, their customer support was good. Ended up getting Half-Life for free after pricematching.. :D

Best Buy = ok
circuit city = bad
comp USSR = ok (great when there giving away memory)
computer stores = great for parts
online stores = great deals sometimes

I shop at Best Buy and CompUSA for the weekly specials but for bigger items such as a motherboard, cpu or memory than I go to a local computer shop or order online.

Hah, this says more about your neighbors than the stores they work for. The employees there are all comprised of locals. Hell, they're mostly your damn peers! :p I think your problem is really with Gen-Xers. I'm with ya there! :p
