Does anybody else let their washing machine fill up with water before adding clothes?

i havent heard of people doing this because the machine will break but i've heard of people doing this to ensure the detergent mixes/dilutes correctly. this was mostly out of fear that the detergent being too strong could ruin some of the more delicate colored clothing.

like others in the thread, i have a front loader so i dont worry about it 🙂

Exactly this for me, too.

Technically she's right.
Technically she is so wrong it hurts to say this..
I use to work for a company called Norge and we instructed all our sales people that the proper way to use a washing machine was to add the detergent first then the water then while the tub was filliung with water you add your clothes.

She was technically wrong to assert that you have let the tub fill all the way with water.....before adding the clothes.

I start the water filling process and add detergent by putting the cup under the water stream so that it gets diluted right from the start and doesn't stay clumped together. Once the detergent is all in, I start adding clothes as it continues to fill with water.

The laundry in my building is front-loading. Add detergent to the dispenser thing along with fabric softener.

At home, my parents have an upright, but we just add the detergent to the detergent/bleach dispenser and add the clothes before starting. When I had access to an upright without the dispenser, I would either add the detergent before and let it fill a little before adding clothes or just add clothes, turn on, and add detergent after it filled with water.

I evenly distribute the clothes around the agitator of my ancient top loader, then add the liq detergent, then start it up. Can't open the lid once the water starts filling due to the noxious chlorine fumes coming from the town water, else my asthma flares up.
