Does an Asus A8V Deluxe support an Opteron 165?

I've looked at the Asus website and my board A8V deluxe supports the AMD X2 dual core processors, but there's no mention of the dual core opteron's.

I'd like to get the 165, but will it work? Will it show up as an X2?? or do I have to wait untill Asus adds it to their bios?

Technically, most 939 mobos don't support Opterons. But no one has had problems, so it is OK. Mine shows up as an Opteron, and does beautifully. Most BIOS's have been updated.

I used a single core Opteron on this board for about a week. Basically it works fine at stock speeds with the latest BIOS, but overclocking it can be tricky. The board's HT tends to top out at 260 or so and the memory dividers are totally messed up with all revision E processors, so you'll need high bandwidth memory to get anywhere.

As is mentioned by themusgrat above, most skt 939 mb's will work fine with Opterons as long as they work with X2's, the reason you don't find more official info regarding this is AMD, they don't support using the Opteron in any non-server mb & have asked the mb makers not to list the information on their websites. There is plenty of information around if you do a quick search Google search though, I wasn't certain about my MSI K8N-Neo2 (NF3 Ultra) working with the Opteron 170 I just ordered, but after reading reports from 20+ people who are running either that or a 165 on my mb, I was reassured.

For all those who do have the Asus A8V deluxe, the board now officially supports the opteron line of cpu's. Didn't bother to see if there all there but it had the 165, 170, 175, some single cores and of course the FX-60. All with bios rev 1017, which actually has been out for a while.
