anybody have a definite answer?

Whether I call them for a credit limit increase or use the online "request credit limit increase" feature, does it matter?

YES, I do think so. When I was working for the citi group, they used to pull up the credit reports for increasing the credit limit. Using a credit card is basically an unsecured loan, so they have to pull out the credit report to verify if you are actually worthy of giving a higher credit.....

I always hated that CC's do that.... they can check your credit report with a Account Review pull of your credit report, same thing as a normal credit check except it doesn't show up on your credit report as a inquiry, because a AR basically says you already have credit with them, they just want to see a update picture of your credit.

i just do the online thing from time to time. at first they need a year before they can approve to increase my credit line, i've recently increased my credit line about 2 months ago, and i tried this weekend and they doubled it again, now i have a $4000 limit on my blue student card, and $7400 on my blue cash card (the student card started off with a $500 limit and the blue cash started with $1700)

heck i can buy a car with these two cards theoretically... and i am still in $14k of stafford debt. heh.

but when i request online, it's pretty much instant approval, so i guess they must have your records ready constantly...
