Does Amazon try to push you into paying for faster shipping?

Last 8 or so things I ordered were all available in the local warehouse so I had the option for same day delivery. Being in no hurry I went with the free super saver shipping. And every single item ended up coming from the KY warehouse and taking 7-8 days to get here. It's like Amazon punishes you for being cheap.

I have prime... if amazon carries it it's here in 2 days or less.

In a market like yours if the item is available in limited quantity I'd ship it from further away hoping some fool pays for same day

Free super saver shipping from Amazon = anywhere from 2 days to 2 weeks.

It's $3.99 for same day delivery on orders placed before 11:30am, if its available, I usually go ahead and use it. If its late and shows up next day I complain and get my $3.99 back, it's now free 1 day shipping.

Yea, ordered with super saver shipping and it took 1-2 weeks to ship. Another time, they didn't ship my order for 3 weeks because one of the items was backordered and they wanted to group it together. I just canceled that and don't use Amazon anymore for things I need within 1 week.

I only go for the free shipping with Amazon. I know Amazon items takes some time to reach me.

I always get the free super saver. I live near an Amazon warehouse so stuff only ever takes a couple of days to get delivered. Prime isn't worth it in Canada. We don't get Amazon Instant Video or the Kindle Lending Library. Not to mention Amazon.ca only caries half of what Amazon.com does. So we're paying the same $79/yr for Prime but getting far less. Just the priority shipping.

Same as above.

They keep asking if I want to sign up for Prime. I live by the main hub for this half of the country -- no need.

I use Prime and get my items in 2 days and sometimes even get a Saturday delivery without paying for it. Prime is the way to go if you're going to shop a lot at Amazon.

I don't have prime because with FSSS, I have gotten my orders within 1-2 day of it being shipped as long as it wasn't shipped from the West. I live in NY.

Here we go with someone yet again complaining about free shipping taking so long. Don't like it then pay up.

I live within a half-day drive of four of the warehouses in PA. Even if I happen to get something shipped from CA, it usually arrives two days before the window. Don't see the point in paying extra for shipping.

You're probably just being put in a lower-priority queue. If the warehouse near you is shipping out at near capacity, they're probably going to shuffle your order off to somewhere farther away that is less busy.

FSSS gets pretty slow around the holidays, but during most of the year it's fine in my experience.

I placed an order earlier this week and chose the free shipping option. After 2 days, it still didn't ship, so I cancelled the order. It was just a Samsung Lan Adapter for my new TV, I didn't REALLY need it.

I finally ponied up for prime and it is ridiculous. Last item arrived before it was even listed as shipped.

I wishlist everything and when it is over the $25 mark for free shipping I do it that way. Obviously if I wishlist it to begin with I didn't need it all that quickly.

Maybe I'll do a prime membership if they ever get better than Netflix.

I find it odd that if I chose free shipping they seem to go out of there way to make sure my item ships from a far away warehouse for no reason other than they can. When I do free shipping on NewEgg, they don't go "fuck you, I'm shipping your box from the TN location you cheap ass" I don't expect free fast shipping, but they could ship from the local warehouse. Then I could get it in 5 days instead of 8, and they'd probably save money.

Well, here's the thing. It probably only costs them a few cents more to ship it from some far-away warehouse than it does to ship it locally since they probably have very nice contracts with the shipping companies.

So if the warehouse near you is shipping a lot of stuff and the warehouse in BFE, Kentucky is shipping less and not maximizing their output, they'll probably ship it from BFE, Kentucky.

Super-saver is designed to preserve local warehouse availability.

You sometimes can get Super-Saver items within 2 days.

For $79, I just use Prime. Not a month goes by without at least a dozen Amazon products delivered.

I wonder if average joe shipping prices get severly jacked up to compensate for the little more than nothing they charge these giant online retailers to ship.
