I use Coldeeze drops and Mucinex and I feel it reduces the severity when I have a cold.

However, I also eat mostly healthy and exercise which has kept me healthy for years. I do get a flu shot yearly too.

Yup. And they put it right there on the packaging, as if somehow it's more authoritative than "doctor", "scientist", or "pharmacist".

Yep. Teachers probably get too much respect today and yet people are always acting like they deserve more.

Zicam works pretty well at lessening the effects of a cold, but might be too late.

Is this the stuff that got pulled from shelves because of the claims that it caused permanent loss of smell?

It can help. I'm not under the delusion that it'll magically cure whatever I have, but it's curbed the experience more often than not. If I have it, I never use it more than twice a day (and don't even like that), the packaging recommends 3x max which is still overkill.

I've had worse experiences with OTC meds...such as moving congestion from my nose/head to my lungs. Or at best I'll simply feel like I got worse after it wears off. I reserve those for when I absolutely cannot deal with the symptoms...which is a couple times per decade.

got back from walmart. airborne in 2 types: chewables, and drop in water (like alka-selzer).
i bought the chewables.

hm.. i saw zircam too. maybe next time when i go thru this bottle of 35 chewables.

Did you bother to look at the ingredients and compare to other stuff on the shelf?

Get a humidifier. Seriously. Gets you over colds and prevents lots of nose/throat infections.

Its much better for keeping colds off. If you've had one that stays on and wont go away after a long time, it MIGHT make it die a little faster.

It cant hurt you thats for sure.

Yes, but like chiros with their "cure ADD/ADHD like symptoms" they just had to change things to make it legal. They're still pushing it and I see people that believe its some wonder medicine that will cure your cold and prevent you from getting sick at all. I'm often shocked (/sarcasm) to find these are people that think flu shots give you the flu and blah, blah, blah.

Flu shots do give you the flu... that's entirely the point.

Of course its a dead/inactive version of the virus they think will be going around so your body can build an immunity to it.

I'm sure you already knew that and were referring to the people who think its some conspiracy and they're injecting everyone with live viruses to make you sick...but I wanted to make some sarcastic comment about it.

Me I just ingest every virus/bacteria/pathogen/toxin I come into contact with by not washing my hands and sucking on my thumb periodically throughout the day. Never had to waste my time/money on flu shots and I haven't been sick in 10-15 years (not gonna give you the exact date). I actually do recall the last time I got "sick" it was more like a minor inconvenience because I had a little bit of a sore throat and runny nose and was a bit sore/weak. Lasted 3 days...but everybody else (family friends coworkers) were "deathly" ill with temps as high as 106 with vomiting and diarrhea etc. bedridden for week/s and unable to return to work for like a month. Its a running joke now that if I ever get "sick" its time to call in the haz-mat because I would be carrying the "doom virus".

That's exactly what I said. I know what he's referring to.

Bwa, ha ha ha ha!

"Behind the counter" is simply describing the location. It means nothing as a class of medications. You can still buy them without a prescription. Prescription meds, OTC, even completely illegal street drugs can be "behind the counter" because anything can. Think about the terminology for a second: "OTC" actually implies that it was behind the counter! How can something pass "over" the counter on it's way to you if it were never on the other side?

If Sudafed D is "behind the counter" then I guess all OTC products are dangling in a basket above it.

That was more point. It is not comparable terminology. One refers to a class of medications that can be obtained without a prescription, the other refers to a place particular meds are stored due to local laws. BOTH Sudafeds are "OTC."

Just trying to nip it in the bud before it becomes another common mistake that redefines something that should have a fixed meaning. Clearly, it's already happening. Confusion with meds can be dangerous. The least we can do is get a clear understanding of "OTC" and not let meth-heads screw it up.

Yeah, you know what I meant. Honestly, that's limited compared to what I hear people say, the amount of crazy shit I see about the flu vaccine is...scary.

I'm the opposite. I keep things clean but I get about the same results as you. I rarely get very sick, and when I do get something that's been going around I seem to get over it quicker than others.

I literally grew up with raw sewage in my room...so I've just continued the trend.
Otherwise I try to keep healthy and get proper nutrition.

Even when I went to visit Japan, my friend who had already been there and got sick ended up getting sick again the first week. I've never been there and I didn't get sick at all even being there 3 months. I keep my immune system active and healthy by feeding it lots of bad guys...so when I go somewhere new its already set to kick ass and the bad guys don't have a chance to get setup.
