Does age matter in a relationship?

Exactly what the title states. I'm 17. If I ask out a girl who's 15, is that like a criminal or moral offence? Seriously. Does two years difference in age make that big of a deal?

Nope. My sister dated a guy two years older than her, and they dated for three years, very happy together. Go for it!

Oh, and BTW, I think it's a criminal offense if you're 18 and she's 15, and only if you have sex with her, something about statutory rape (sp?) is not a problem with 18-->17 or 16, but it is 18--->15. I could be wrong though.

my opinion is that when u are young (under 19), then a difference in age matters because you two are at different levels in your life.

as you get older, it won't matter...

good luck w/your situation.

what really begins to matter is when you get to college and she's still in high school...

Difference in age diminishes as age increases, due to the lower percentage impact.

The difference between a 13 year old and a 15 year old is significant, 17 and 15 less so, 17 and 19 less so, etc, etc, etc.

I don't see anything wrong with 15 & 17. As far as the whole stat. rape thing, I believe most states have a provision for consensual sex between people of close age, but one being below the legal age of consent. For example, an 18 year old with a 17 year old g/f. Check your state laws if you're worried about that, or (my suggestion) simply don't have sex.

i think most of the decisions people make based on age are quite useless and incorrect, but this is also from the point of view of a person severly restricted because he is, as his mother puts it "only 15"(16 in 4 days :p) so i say, go ahead, just make sure you don't get yourself in legal hot water ;)

Age matters when your 87 and the girl is 14.
I dated a chick that was was 2 years younger than me when I was your age. It was a mistake.
Hope you don't get your heart torn out. :)

Statutory rape covers all sex, consentual and otherwise, with girls (and guys) under the age of consent. It does not matter what the age of the the other party is, it is still considered a crime. The trick is the age of consent, it varies form state to state. Some are as low as 14-16, most are 18.

there is a handy rule called "divide by two plus 7"
examples
21 yr old guy can date a "(21/2)+7" girl \ roughly 17.5-18 yrs old...that means a senior in college w/ a freshman in college...a senior in college w/ anyone in HS is bad form.
30 yr old guy can date a "(30/2)+7" girl - roughly 22 yrs old ... that means an adult man can go out with a girl done with undergraduate studies... imagine being a working guy and having to put up with a college chix frat parties...again bad form.
50 guy, 32 girl ... makes sense here.

this rule ofcourse has limitations but for most, it should werk fine.

When I was 17 in High School, my buddies would've given me such a hard time for dating a 15 year old. I would've never lived it down.

The original poster is in Canada. Age of consent is 14!

Check your local laws here.

oh, and Sluggo,

The age of consent in Oklahoma is 16. And to quote the page I mentioned before:

The age of the defendant may become relevant as a defense, however, under section 1112, if the victim is over 14 years of age and consents, and the defendant is under 18 years of age.
