My new case doesn't have a built-in PC speaker. Is one necessary to hear the beep codes generated by the Bios? (I have an ASUS A8N-SLI Dlx m/b if that makes a difference). Thx..

Yes, you do. My MSI board came with a speaker, but it looks like yours doesnt. Gonna have to pick one up. Look at page 2-28 of your manual for the pins.

No not necessarily. You don't need a separate speaker for the A8N SLI. It has a speaker on the motherboard somewhere. . .hidden away where you can't see it. I have this motherboard and it DOES beep when it posts and there is NO speaker in my case.

Just plug some speakers into the green jack. This board has a voice based post reporter that will announce post error message like "System failed CPU test" or "System failed VGA test" ect...

I guess you can't go wrong but you still don't need it. That thing is probably what the Asus A8N already has on it. And now that I have seen a picture of it, I am sure I have seen that part on my A8N. So save your money.
