does a hard drive increasegame performance?

i bought a new comp but kept my old hard drive, some games ran like crap, i reformated several times but the problem kept happening, i bought a new hard drive and my game performance increased by around 10-50% depending on the game. my friends said this was imposible r they right or m i goin crazy?

It will improve your load times (possibly, not always), but it will not give you more frames per second (except under somewhat rare circumstances I suppose).

If your computer doesn't have a lot of ram it can improve gameplay. It's very unlikely though and even if it did it would only help improve stuttering you might be experences due to virtual memory.

if its a realy OLD HD and doesnt support DMA modus..then yes, it could slow down everything when there's HD access happening because it would use more CPU cycles thana new one which uses DMA modi.

If you have <1GB of RAM or less then yes a slow old HD that is being used for virtual memory will be a problem.

If you have 1024MB + then likely the source of the problem is elsewhere
