Does a Gunman Chronicles CD KEY== a Counter Strike CD KEY???

Does anyone know if I can use a gunman cdkey for my counterstrike installation, and use it to play online?

My kids lost the Jewel Case (no, really, they did!) to my Retail CounterStrike. I figure the only feasible thing to do is purchase another copy of SOMETHING. And, since Gunman can be had at EB for <$10, and CS or HL are running $25-$30, I thought I'd see if anyone knew off hand if I can save the extra $10-$15 and just buy gunman?

LOL, I know it sounds odd, but:

They're both half-life engine based

Their keys are the same makeup (13 chars, etc.)

I've used my Retail Counterstrike key in half life(TFC, CS Mod, etc) and played online.

I just wasn't sure if the Key hashing algorithm was something unique to each game (and I just got lucky when I used my CS key in HL), or might be common to the games based on the half life engine.

Just thought I'd check to save the agony of losing yet another $30 for the same game.. ;-)

BTW, yes, I did have my key recorded on my hd, my 30 gb 75gxp... sigh, nuff said.

why not just download the Counter-Strike mod and then your half-life CD key will be the one that is used.

(never really understood why anyone who owned half-life would buy CS ???)

I probably will, but I thought I'd check here first to see if anyone knew off hand to save me the trouble of trying to return it to EB if it doesn't work (I could care less about gunman, as I don't have a lot of time for games as it is. I am really just looking for the key.)

Ahh, well, I never actually "owned" half life... I originally bought CS so that I could have a key to play online with. At the time, it was just easier to change the key and install CS:Mod on my existing installation of half life (Hey, at least I ponied up EVENTUALLY), rather than install my CS:Retail. But that was 3 computers and many moons ago.
