gpa is meaningless.

for clarification: GPA is not a reliable indicator of an employees performance or sucess in a business.

no.
in my experience, 3.5+ will be enough to get you interviews with most places, and thats all a gpa is good for anyways.

Average college graduate GPS is something like 2.3? I'd say 3.5 is great, I think I have a 3.2 in my public relations/marketing major

3.5+ was high honors at RU engineering. 3.2+ is honors and 3.8+ is highest honors.

I think 3.5 is damn good in engineering. but if you think you can do better, why not do better?

So true, I had a low GPA and had a hard time getting interviews out of college. After the first job, no one cared what I did in college.

You know what they call the guy who finishes last in his med school class....Doctor.

GPA isn't all that meaningful unless you are going to graduate school or trying to land a huge first job. Employers would rather you have some work experience and good references.

Experience is key. My boss won't hire new people w/o experience, their degree or level of skill doesn't mean much if they can't troubleshoot and haven't seen the weird situations that EUs get into. (Not engineers, btw.. but we support them!)

A 3.5 GPA is quite good. Your GPA is only looked at when getting your first job when you have no prior work experience that is related to the field of your major.

When you have no prior work experience it leaves little for an employer to do other than check the college, major and GPA. Being a member in one or more honor societies does not hurt either.

/brag got a 3.72 myself though /brag

Yes...because you're an engineering major :p

All the freshman engineers around here ever do is chant about how they want more beer...then drive a car onto the football field.

During a game.

hell yeah 3.5 is good, esp in engineering.... of course it depends on the school somewhat.... Hell I have a 2.95 right now.

Why do these idiots need to come on here and brag?

If I made a million dollars a year in salary, should I post "Does a $1,000,000 salary suck?". C'mon, it doesn't take a genius to know that 3.5 in engineering is a good GPA. DUH

I am out of college (grad. last year), graduated with a B.E. in Mech. Eng, had a HORRIBLE gpa, but still had interviews, and started working right after graduation, not to mention making 60K+ salary.

So basically, GPA doesn't really matter except to get your into the door of the interview, and that's if it's a company that requires GPA minimus.

3.3 to 3.5 - Cum Laude
3.5 to 3.8 - Magna Cum Laude
3.8 - 4.0 - Summa Cum Laude

Thats generally how it goes down in most colleges....

Everything you add on your resume that could potentially give you an edge over another person competing for the same job will always help.

I don't think OP is bragging.

anyways, GPA is a much bigger deal if you are shooting for grad school/ med school/ law school. For most prestigious grad schools, you probably need a 3.7+ .

For work, its not so much. I have on occasion seen companies shoot down candidates because they had Too High a GPA. They feel that the candidate is too entrenched in academia.

Also, it matters which year you are in. If you are already getting a 3.5 GPA your freshmen year, then its not that great.
