Does a dvd-rom or dvd writer need a 80 pin cable?

Or is a 40 pin cable good enough? My Asus mobo came with 40 pin cables for the cdrom. I was wondering if I should replace this with a 80 pin cable since I plan on connected a DVD reader and DVD writer to it.

A 40 wire cable is more than sufficient for current optical drives.

Although I agree with EeyoreX, my Pioneer 120 will play nicely like this (slave).
