Hello

I have been offered this CPU - an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ AMA3200BEX5AR at a good price from a trusted friend.

=> I *believe* it is a mobile CPU ?

=> It is however *lidless* - ie: no HIS - is that a bad or good thing ?

=> can someone advise / confirm if this cpu will work in a normal desktop Athlon 64 board ?

=> if so, would there be any reason I could not use a Zalman 7000 with it ?

=> any other ?issues I should know about in running one of these in a Athlon 64 Desktop board ?

Many thanks,
Ben

If your friend is selling it to you for less than $255 then IT IS a good price. Only issue with running a mobile in a desktop board is getting a good contact between the heatsink and cpu die.

Hi Lyfer

I woudl hve thoguth that wiht the IHS not there, contact between the H/S and the CPU core would have been "tighter" or more " direct " ?

Any chance you could elaborate just a bit please ?

Also. I presume from your note that there are no other issues to be aware or wary of ?

Sorry for the questions but I am a long time intel-person, so am a bit new to the AMD world.

With most boards you have to boot from a regular A64 first, flash the bios, and then use the DTR chip.
