Does a 3000+ overclocked to 2.4GHz perfom like a 3800+?

i expect this question has been asked and answered a few times already, but until now i've basically ignored the subject of overclocking. . . so i'm sure some people have an opinion ;)

It should perform exactly the same as long as the memory is close to the default speed. If you overclock the memory as well then your performance will vary, but I would expect it to stay within +/-5%.

Yes it will perform identical as long as the memory is at the same speed.

get it to 300x8 and run a DDR266 mem divider on the memory. it will then perform at DDR400 speeds (300x.667 = 200).

RallyMaster's OC advice gives you CPU@2.4GHz (3800+ speed), and a memory divider to keep the RAM in-spec (DDR400). The only thing will be out-of-spec is the HTT (900 if the 3xHTT multiplier is used in BIOS), and this doesn't affect system speed (HTT @ 800+ has never been found to be a bottleneck).

If you have overclocking RAM, you can run it in-sync (1:1) & gain a small boost in apps & games sensitive to memory bandwidth. My Crucial DDR500 is stable @1:1 with my 3000+ overclocked to 9x267 (2.4GHz), HTT 4x267. CPU benchmarks give identical results to a 3800+, except where memory bandwidth plays a part (giving my OC the edge).

Yep it will within a few % (depending on memory settings).
That's why I can't see a reason to switch from my 754 3000+ Venice @ 2.6GHz for awhile. Of course, the geek devil is whispering Conroe in my ear.
Conroe........ :p

It should.

My opteron 146 @ 2.8 (fx-57) performs almost identically to a real fx-57,
according to SiSandra. It's like 75 pts difference out of 11k.

i know of people with the same ram as i have that overclock them that well, but they are giving their ram around 3.3v and my motherboard will only allow me to add 0.2v., so i'll prolly be doing the memory divider thing. . . are there programs for doing the memory divider or can it only be done in the BIOS?
