burn twice as fast as a 8x burner? Its sad that I just got my PlexWriter 8432 this January and its becoming outdated by the newer 12x, and soon to be 16x's.

Yes, a 16X burner will burn twice as fast as a 8X.

Were did you hear that they are coming out with 16X burners?

Yamaha will be the first to introduce a 16x burner. It's going to support DAO RAW *g*

16x.. for those who absolutely positively must have a 650Meg CD burned in 5 minutes :p

Crimson - To answer the need for speed question - when you just compiled an mp3 layout and want burn yourself an audio CD for the car and have to leave in 10 minutes, a fast burner comes in handy. I have an 8X burner and can burn a full CD in 9 minutes vs. 20 minutes for a 4X burner. Of course this is a pure luxury, but very cool. The same argument can made about anything involved with computers, like CPU's. You can argue that I didn't need to go from a 350 to a 500 to a 933.

I have a 4x burner and like it just fine. As far as time taken to burn a CD, since I don't sit in front of the computer when I burn CD's, I don't mind that it takes 20 minutes. Just be happy you have the capability to burn a CD, as some people do not.

Doesn't it take a certain amount of cpu power to convert MP3 to CD's? My Sony 10X4X32X will not write a full disk from mp3's at 10x.

Yes, they do. Almost everything in the computer will devour cpu time when in use.

Yes a 16x would take half the time an 8x would to burn.

Yes indeed it would. Converting the Mp3s to wav first would help, but that takes some time to.

*shrugs*

I find my 8x8 burner to be plenty fast.

farmercal - that's my point. You could sit in front of the computer and burn CD's with a fast burner:)
