Does 900Mhz Tbird Athlon need a 300w PSU?

I just bought a Socket A 900Mhz Thunderbird Athlon and a MSI KT7 Pro2A motherboard.

At the moment I have a 250w PSU (came with my AOpen case) - will I be able to use this PSU with the CPU/Mboard combination above, or do I need to buy a new 300w PSU?

Just try it and see if it works first.

It all depends on the PS and other factors you can't quite guess at. I know plenty of people that run their athlons/tbirds/durons off a 250w but then there are a small portion of people that their machines won't boot at 250w. Just give it a try, there's really no definite answer

Ok, I'll try using the 250w PSU.

If I have to get a new PSU, what company would you recommend?

Is Suntek a good manufacturer?

Just built a system with a msi k7tpro2a and a t-bird 750@900, using the exact same power supply, and no problem at all. It's approved by AMD for T-birds to at least 1ghz, so don't worry.

Remember these are power supply ratings not how much they actually push out. Some power supply's can push out much higher than their rated wattage.

You have to remember that it is the quality of the power supplies that are one of the main factors. It is not a coincidence that most of the power supplies that are rated at less than 300 and still approved are major players (sparkle, etc...)
