Does 720p Require HDCP?

Folks,
With all the ruckus being made about HDCP and Vista... does that only apply if you're trying to run movies, video streams, and other copyrighted content at 1080p?

The LCD I ordered only runs at 720p, so if the above case is true, then the HDCP situation is much ado about nothing.

HDCP is required for protected content no matter what resolution it happens to be.

HDCP is required for protected content no matter what resolution it happens to be.

This is true. If your HD content gets downsampled to 900 something, you'll have resolution to spare since your monitor is capable of 1280x720 (720p) 😛.

I think I'll just move into a cave now since that's where the content industry seems to be taking us technology wise. (holding a bucket of water) Is that MPAA approved wood in your fire sir?

If you ordered a new LCD display with HDMI it should support HDCP. If not and the software requires it, you're SOL.

Will HD-DVD and Blue ray have zones also? In case positive, please include there the DVD Zones. Why can't I play something legally bought in another country?:disgust:

I have a decent DVD collection, mixed regions 1, 2 and 4. I have always to research before buying any kind of hardware - I always buy "codefree friendly" hardware.😕

Make no mistake, this is no piracy. I spent a lot of money on the DVDs.

This zone thing is just annoying.:|
