Does 4GB Hurt Overclocking?

I want to overclock a quad core QX6700 with NVidia 680 SLI chipset.

Will using 4GB instead of 2GB total hurt the overclocking?

Thinking of using two sets of Corsair XMS2 Dominator 8888C4
(http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/dominator.html

I know with previous AMD systems 4GB was bad because of 2T command rate and other reasons, but not sure if we're finally allowed to have 4GB.

Any comments appreciated -

4 sticks will be harder on the system period (don't matter if its 4x512mb or 4x1gb). How hard is hard to tell because nobody really has those boards yet....nm all the slots populated etc.

I don't know if it will really be that big of an issue though. I didn't think the Core 2 Quad Extreme has tremendous overclocking potential. I'd simply be happy with 3-3.2Ghz

Personally, I waiting for quad cores to come down in price here ... either the 2.6Ghz quad core ... or at the very least have the QX6700 come down to MSRP.

Unless you're planning on also buying a Vapochill setup, you won't be overclocking that QX6700. According to the people who already own a Q6700 ES, they run above 60C under load, using the best air cooling available, at stock speed and voltage.

populating all four dimms slots puts a big strain on the memory controller.So u'll have to slack off latencies and frequencies.And right now the benefits of 4gb aren't there unless u are using windows x64.
For overclocking its not advisbale.And u really don't need PC8888 dominators do u?

Looks like we'll have to wait until native 45nm Quad from Intel to get some serious OC head room. This 2xC2D approach runs too hot.

I had 4 sticks (1GB x 4) of corsair XMS2 PC8500 (1066mhz) ram on my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 motherboard and I was still able to overclock my E6700 from 2.66ghz to 3.52ghz.
