That depends on how the company measures the viewing angle. I believe some companies were trying to pass off TN displays as having 178 degree viewing angles at one point, agg..

LOL, You couldnt ask this in the many monitor threads you started?

In any case, Viewing angle ratings are like most other monitor specs. Mostly useless.

So, no 178 degree doesnt mean its an IPS.

I'v never seen them try to pass TN off as 178 degree... VA panels however i have seen labeled as 178 degree.

I ask because, of course, this new HP says 178 degrees...

I will say it is VERY bright (or was)...

I adjusted Brightness, Contrast and BACKLIGHT way down...

I would think that with the stated specs for the viewing angle and response time that their is a good chance that it is an IPS panel.

Google didn't turn up squat for me on it....Guess you already tried that.

You might be able to look thru vent holes and see a sticker on the back of the panel...I've seen it done on TV's

technically p-mva / s-pva is 176 degrees.

a lot of the new HPS use s-ips panels though, i dont think anything recent they make uses pva/mva

Did I miss something - did you post the model number for the monitor?
If its a Dell monitor, they usually disclose the panel type in specifications. Did you look there? Or download a manual and check?
