They are a solid and fun little car. They seem to get a bad rep from all of the ladies that are seen driving them. See if you can find an ACR or R/T model, as they have some nice Koni adjustable shocks and the 150hp DOHC 2.0L engine.

Parts are reasonable as well, and none of the parts are ridiculously hard to replace. If you take in to account the HUGE amount of them produced, it won't be hard to find parts for them in the future either.

That's all I've heard from my g/f's sister. She bought a neon and just hates the thing. Not really sure why since I usually walk away when she starts bitching about it.

Neons are very fun to drive...but according to consumer reports, their reliability isn't all that wonderful.
Also, you don't want to be driving in one of those on a long trip.

When I started looking for a car I had my heart set on a neon, but ended up getting a Chevy Prizm for several reasons: more trunk space (I moved halfway across the country), also fun to drive, and high reliability ratings from consumer reports (plus, the Prizm is actually a Toyota Corolla, only cheaper)

My wife and I own a Neon. Got a great deal on it about 2 years ago.

Overall we have been Very happy. One repair of the Dash Control PCB (Bout 300 @ the dealer installed)

My mom drove it from San Diego to Mn when we moved and We have driven it to Michigan 4-5 since we've been here.

I personally don't like driving it but I do drive it to work 1~2 week to help keep it clean. (It also gets Much better Gas Milage than my Dakota)

The Mechanic that lives next door to me says it's a pretty decent car IF You keep the oil changed and do all the PM's. Also he suggested running super to keep the valves Clean.

THe thing THat we like about it is Adults Can Sit in the back,

I used to LOVE Neons until I actually drove one for an extended period of time. The engine is loud and just drones on. Completely annoying.

Get a Honda Civic, they have no pickup, bad handleing, terrible ride, terrible road noise, no leg room, and the highest theft rate nationwide - no wait - don't get a Civic, ever.

They're a cute car. If I were a foot shorter, and a girl, I'd buy one.

first gens are pretty noisy and dont exactly have refinement. They are fun little cars though. The only car i have ever been able to take a right turn doing 50mph without the tires screaming :)

2nd gens are a HUGEW improvement in comfort, quality, and sound. But, you give up the handling of the first gens to get it.

I have driven around 50,000 miles in Neons and have to say i never thought the engine was too loud, i usually had the stereo up, though.

I suggest only consider the Neon if you are getting a manual... otherwise the 3-speed auto transmission just sucks!

Stay away from the Pre-97 ones, other than that, they're great cars for the money!

They are as girlie as Pontiac Grand Ams. Look closely at Grand Ams and Neons. They are all driven by girls. Almost all.

Hahahaha!
