Yeah it's not the prettiest thing ever.. but a company can't make something that appeals to everyone. if a company is trying to be diverse like Dodge, they're going to have a few cars which some hate, and some love.. and vice versa even.

It's gonna follow the current naming convention I guess as the 48RE

Extensive internal modifications give it the torque capacity and durability required to work with the redesigned High Output Cummins diesel engine. I was hopeing for a brand new from scratch desighn like the Allison 1000 and Fords new 5 speed, but atleast it's a step forward for you Mopar boys 😉

I'm sure DCX will tune down the truck's styling a bit for the production version. I actually like it the way it is, ugly in a good way 😉, if there is such a thing.

Sweet! If it will mount behind the 8.0, then it will fit mine. That means when ( notice I did not say "if" ) I blow my trans I can bolt on one of these. I fit can handle the torque of the HO, then it should be able to handle mine. *coroses fingers*

😉 With this one it'll only be internal parts modifications so it's not the need for bell housings, TC's or any programming atleast 😉 so it'll keep the price much more fair

The Allison will also be getting a bump in strength as GM is gonna be putting a Veriable Turbo into the Duramax planned for 2004 to answer to the new Cummins and PS

It's just strange that Chevy is moving up to a more Dakota size truck and out of the smaller compact truck while DCX is moving towards the compact genre with such a radical concept.....no point, I guess

I can always machine an adapter (or haveone done anyway) the programming is the problem with the allison 🙁. But you are right, cheap = good, expecialy for the job impaired like myself 😛.

My question for GM and Ford is why the v-8 design? Why not a straight six? Just for the smoothness and maybe length issues? non-straight diesels have never sat well with me. Does GM have any plans for a straight diesel in "light" trucks?

GM hasn't said anything.. There was some talk of Ford having a second Diesel in 2004 or 05, with some new levels of Diesel technology in it never seen, but that desighn was supposedly more gentle (less truck feel) for the Excursion (SUV market). but no info stated ever since.
