While watching HBO's REAL Sports, a story aired about a man wanting to ban dodge ball from schools because its violent and can hurt kids physically and mentally. During this story they also mention a movement in PE that has kids jump rope without a rope. They say its to guard kids against feeling like a failure. Yet another segment touched (ironically) on the game tag. Touching is being looked at as a bad thin too. This IMO is absolutely ridiculous. Failure is a part of life, learn to get over it, learn to pick yourself back up off the ground and go back at it. What's going to happen when these kids hit 18 and are out on their own? What happens the first time they fail? If I had a link I'd post it. Thoughts?

People (with no lives) have wanted to ban dodge ball since Roman times. It's just too much fun. Jump rope with no rope sounds like something a gym teacher would come up with when she couldn't find the box with the jump ropes. Tag being bad touch is a new one.
The usual crap that comes along every couple of years, typically from a few schools that nobody has heard of or will hear of again, or from a parent that, again, nobody has heard of or will hear of again, and has never gotten very far.

There are way more fun games than dodgeball; it's not even a sport really.
I could care less if they ban it or not, but I can see why some people would want rid of it. It's a stupid and pointless game.

Exercise + competition + coordination development. It's also more fun than any computer game I can think of.

Indeed, nothing can replace the oh so satisfying *PANG!!* sound that the ball makes as it hits your target's head at Mach 2, sending them into a hysterical arm/leg flail as they fall on their ass and the look on their face when they sit up and try to figure out where the **** that ball came from. :laugh:

And speaking as the guy who was on the bad end of that ball 90% of the time in elementary school, emotional damage shit. I may have had a 1/20 hit ratio, but it felt so sweet when I finally hit something, and I did get better eventually.

Well, I didn't say better or worse, just perhaps less courageous and more fearful. But certainly not in every aspect of life. And I think as a society, we are generally more peaceful, more tolerant of others, and higher educated than previous generations, in some regard. So our differences are certainly not all negative. But our mindset towards aspects of life such as this, is deteriorating a bit. We are overly cautious about things. We, in a sense, fear death as if we can prevent its eventuality. And while we certainly can help postpone its coming, we do so at greater costs, and usually costs associated with the actual enjoyment of life itself. And what good is quantity without quality? Life isn't about being physically capable of breathing, it's about, well, getting hit in the head with a big rubber ball, and laughing about it.
