if i was a dem i'd be a bit ticked at the guys who are terminally ill or chronically ill who are making it so that the majority can't act as one...

it was the same thing with the last scotus chief justice, it seemed to me...

and there's been repubs who did the same thing...

but it sure seems that there ought to be some kind of rule (or term limits) so that these big heads don't hold a place when they can't perform anymore...

i'm sorry that they are old and/or sick, but there is (supposedly) important work to do that their absence is delaying...

Where does this come from in a thread about three senior democratic senators who are not being accused of abusing their powers.

But yes, there is a great leveling process that always removes all politicians, its usually happens by death by natural causes if they don't retire first, and it gets Democrats, Republicans, and independents as an equal opportunity employer.

Cancer survivor here. Cancer is not always fatal.


The treatment isn't even necessarily debilitating, though it often is. I was able to live a fairly normal life on chemo/radiation, I just didn't have as much energy and sometimes my memory wasn't the greatest. However, if you just adjust to compensate for your weaknesses (like say, writing things down) it isn't a major problem a lot of the time.

Anyway, I really resent the implication that a cancer patient or survivor cannot perform well at a job, especially one that is not physically demanding.

Dodd shares a lot of blame for the financial crisis and Kennedy got away with murder. They can burn in hell for all I care.

but the job of a senator is very demanding, that's the point... it's not the run of the mill job... they make decisions that affect millions of people...

and as to moonsters 'not pressing advantage', that's why they run in elections... to not press your advantage is to squander the support that your constituency gave you...

According to the front page article in this morning's Hartford Courant (leading paper in CT & also one bound and determined to wreck Dodd), Dodd is planning removal of his prostate in the August break and that for patients of Dodd's age (65) there is a 100% five year survival rate and 76% 15 year.

I know quite a few people how have had prostate cancer. Given proper early detection (done in Dodd's case, it was caught in his annual physical) the prognosis is excellent and the treatment has no significant debilitating effects.

I mentioned the Hartford Courant is bound and determined to wreck Dodd. As evidence I point out that they run a major story on his Countrywide VIP mortgage almost every other day, despite the absolute lack of evidence (as admitted by the Courant themselves) that the VIP mortgage rates and terms Dodd got were market rates (ie, available to all) at the time. Meanwhile our GOP governor has an identical sweetheart mortgage deal. The Courant has mentioned that identical "scandal" only once-buried deep in an article about Dodd, and stressing that there was no evidence the governor's deal was any better than market rates.

The generals do little fighting .. they lead. There are a number of Senators who are or have battled cancer in its many forms as well as other disease.. Heck, we had a VP with a Heart condition not too long ago and the current one had health issues along the way too...
Kennedy and Dodd are not alone in the cancer fight... Battles of Wyo and McCain of AZ come to mind... The human body has built in obsolesence... but not-with-standing that if you put Kennedy's name to a bill it gets noticed... and more so since he's ill...
