Lets not talk about my 8 hour poly for TS/SCI....worst day of my life....

I had to go through just the CI poly, was 2.5 hours, bad enough.

Heh...yes, the CI is how we rounded out the day. It was the icing on the cake...nothing compared to how we started out.

I feel like comparable commercial sector jobs would probably pay better anyways without all the hassle. I wouldn't want someone looking through all the porn I have downloaded in my life for sure.

A lot of private sector jobs require a clearance....you HAVE heard of little-known businesses like Lockheed Martin and Boeing, I hope?

Secret isn't worth much, in terms of marketability. TS/SCI full poly/CI/Q/White Yankee is where the money's at.

I played the Source version for quite awhile (sniping motherfucking rules). Haven't in a long time though, but the game is win.

So basically I have to be given secret clearance from a previous job to apply for these?

If it's really a secret clearance, how do you know you don't have it already?

Usually the FBI's anal probe gives it away.

anal probe is just for a TS. secret is rather easy to come by. I think wal-mart sells them in 3 packs for $10.

Poly /w Lifestyle, contrary to the way it sounds does NOT use condoms... nor lube.

(As my brother-in-law says, after they get done with that, they know more about you than you know about yourself!)

8 hours?! Geez man, you must have had a lot of dirty laundry to go over.

I got mine through my company.

It was required.

It is not the most pleasant process.

You mean you didn't enjoy filling out the 30+ page document? 😛

That. And they questioned my family and friends. Had to take a polygraph test as well.

That's the thing. I didn't, but something in my background check flagged me as if I did (specifically they thought I was a drug dealer???). So I got the "tell me everything you've ever done wrong" poly, which turns into the "I'm going to tell you you're lying when you aren't because I know polys are only 75% effective" poly. Loads of fun!

Yes.

no way to get secret clearance otherwise?

No. You need to have a valid reason to obtain a clearance. You can't just "apply" for a clearance.

You need a sponser. The cost is about $15k I believe...usually the sponser will fund it.

Last time I had to get one it took a while for me to fill out the forms because I am married to a Canadian and they insist on having dates of every single time I crossed the border.

I joined the military to get mine. Probably not helpful to you.

Yeah, I used to have secret clearance but I have been out for a while so it is probably gone.

I took a polygraph once. The best part is that I have a lot of pain in my arms when a blood pressure cuff is used, so I was in pain the whole time. When the guy was asking control questions he commented that this was going to basically be useless because I was spiking all over the place. They gave up.

Much MUCH easier to get renewed if you've had it in the past. Odds are even if your clearance is inactive, you'd still get hired.

On the contrary, if you already have secret, it's a lot easier to get into positions requiring higher levels - it's cheaper for companies to upgrade than go directly from scratch.
