DOD:S (Day of Defeat: Source) $9.99 OTD at CC B&M

Nobody has mentioned that DoD:Source take a heck of a lot less resources to run than CoD2. I've played CoD1, HL2:Source, CS:Source, BF2 and for some reason CS:source and DoD:source just have a fluidness of game play that I keep returning too. Mabye it's because I game on a somewhat older machine, I don't know.

If you are a FPS fan then jump on this for $10.

online it's $19.99, but the ad said $9.99. anyone have trouble at the store getting it for $9.99? don't know if i need the ad to remind them...

Got mine today at the Wilkes-Barre PA CC. I had the store ad just in case it didn't ring up as promised.

Nope, Just have to track a copy down since their organizational methods aren't the best here locally.

No single player mode that I know of, unless you count running your own private server and playing against bots.

I have 3 questions:
1) How long will the deal last? Thru this Saturday?
2) How does DOD:S compare with COD2, both in game play and graphic visual displays?
3) Is it a Multiplayer-online game only?
Thanks

1) This is a weekly deal and will end on Saturday.
2) Personally, I like the "feel" of CoD2 better. It just feels a little more natural in the way you move. Also, the recoil system on DoD:S is a bit tricky. After your shot, you don't reset to where you were orginally aiming. When dealing with SMGs, you'll need to constantly drag the mouse down (slightly) in order to stay on target. If you don't, you'll find yourself shooting up into the sky. Graphically, I'd say they're about equal, maybe with a slight edge towards DoD:S.
3) Yes it is MP only

I encountered this as well. It also said, "Not available for in-store pickup." Don't follow that b/c I went to the store and picked it up for $9.99. You won't need the ad.

Thanks OP.
Just got one, to find out its a DVD disc, (says nothing about this on the CD case), and my DVD-RW drive is in another computer to do a project. Ugh... how hard is it to put "requirements" on CD case, like all other games, or at least tell you its a DVD disc.

You should be able to download it after you activate it on Steam.

Picked up the last one in the "Torrance" store in Hawthorne, CA. Should I install from disc or just fetch it from Steam?

Install from disc then fetch from Steam. That way you don't have to grab the core Source engine files from Steam.

BTW DoD S is a GREAT game

What are the requirements for DoD: Source? Does it have HDR lighting? For some reason I thought it did.....

Yeah it has HDR but you can disable it if you wish.
Requirements/reccomended are bottom of this page:

Easy enough to fix, log onto steam (create account if you need to) if you need the software for steam go here:
http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=getsteamnow
Then just enter in the serial number from the boxed package. You can now download the whole thing and not need to use the dvd 🙂
Note that the above steps will be nessasary anyway to play regardless of if you d/l or install from dvd.

It says DVD-ROM right on the binding.
