DoD and or DEA Top Secret Clearance...

A job I am currently wanting to apply for asks for DOD or DEA Top Secret Clearance.

How exactly do I go about getting this???

It'll be two years worth of waiting in order to get clearance like that. Where you start the process, I dunno, but I know it takes about two years to get it.

You don't need to apply, if they want you they come to you.

You would get the clearance thru the employer. It sounds like they are just stating what is required. You know, to scare away the "bad guys".

You get an old program from some website (DoD? Its been a while, cant remember), fill out the last 10 years of your life, send it in. The company should have the process down. Last I heard though, the DoD was something like 500,000 records behind and had to hire a bunch of contractors to help catch up. So you will be waiting for a while, unless the company knows what they are doing and can get it pushed through faster...

You work for the DoD or just have a clearance with them? If you work for them, tell whoever is working on clearances to hurry up with mine! 😛

Why didn't I say that?

I work for the DoD. Expect about 3-4 months for your clearance to go through, that's how long it took mine.

Its been almost a year and a half. They have a little more checking to do on me, and I probably got mine in at the wrong time. Im sure yours got sped up a bunch. Im not too worried about it, its another 3 letter gov agency I have to worry about...

The clearances are prioritized by need. Your initial one is the hardest/ most time consuming. Your five year updates are easier. They will talk to everyone-teachers, wife, neighbors, parents, etc. You can also expect to take a polygraph but it isn't always done (my wife did, I didn't). My wife and I both have TS clearances. She's civil service and hers took about a year, I'm active duty and mine took about 4 months.
